Hello all!

I have been diagnosed less than a week and I have to say I was struggling. I see all these recipes but I'm no cook... I'm a 23 year old guy and I lack the creativity and skill to cook some of the meals I see or hear of. I do, however find it helpful to just see pictures of a typical meal that some other people with Type 1 Diabetes are eating as I see the plate and find it helps me understand some of the combinations of food that are okay to eat at mealtimes.

On top of this, I also find it a lot to take in when I am faced with a wall of text with tips of how to cope or what to do when diagnosed with the condition for the first time. I find a simple sentence with a tip or hint can be more helpful than a wall of text.

Finally I find it more helpful when people are a bit more light hearted about the condition and positive about beating the condition.

I wondered if I started a twitter handle that people could send pictures and tips to, whether people would be interested or find it helpful. I'd like to help others with simple random facts, pictures, hints and tips if that is something people would like? Just getting thoughts really...

Hi,

welcome to the forum, sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis, a real bummer. That said, I hope that you will take all the steps required to make things better, you sound like the sort of person who isn't going to take this lying down. I notice that after 45 views I was the first to respond to your question, sorry it's a don't know, let me explain. It's a brilliant idea, anything that gets people talking and sharing has to be encouraged. The thought going through my head is that with different forms of social media available, which is good, do we need to go beyond the access and communication already available through this forum. It's only me thinking aloud, I'm not being negative.

Like you I find walls of text more and more difficult to comprehend, and I'm 62, so I've got an excuse. LOL I've not fully explored what's already available through this forum, so perhaps I should go away and come back when I know more. In the meantime, keep a stout heart, you'll get support from other forum members.

Just had a little look round, I must have been thinking of another diabetic forum where there is a forum for what you're suggesting. You'll probably notice that a lot of diabetics, not all by any means, tend to look at lowering their carbs, despite what the doctor might say. I tend to eat loads of vegetables for lunch and dinner adding fish/chicken/meat in the evenings. I don't have any culinary skills which is just as well, I chop it all up and throw it in the oven for 30 minutes, depending on the veg of course.
