My GP's surgery have asked me to attend a monitoring appointment with the nurse and to have a fasting (12 hours) blood test prior to this appointment.

Obviously I won't be using any bolus Novorapid doses as I won't be eating, but does anybody know if I should also not take my basal Levemir during the fasting period?

Take basal as normal, the fasting test will be to check your lipids (cholesterol check).

Take basal/background, if not say hello to ketones lol! Best of luck!!

I was asked to go in for a blood test a while back and told it was fasting. So I did as told but the nurse couldn't understand why Id been asked to fast, so I reckon it was a mistake- you don't need to fast for hba1c or cholesterol. Always worth checking I guess.

There are two tests for Cholesterol one is fasting and one is not.
The fasting one is more accurate and so preferred by GPs.

If it's just to get a the Total Cholesterol Figure then you don't need to fast, however if they are doing a full lipid breakdown of your cholesterol then you must fast for 10-12 hours.
