Hi guys i've been on insulatard long lasting insulin for a little over 4 months but now disided to try levemir
wich also is a long lasting insulin. Just wan't to know if i can start up on the new insulin over night? I only
take it once a day, only 6 units so it's
not a big dose:)

Provided you've left it for the same duration of time that you would with your insulatard it will be fine, has your diabetes team given you any instructions on the dosages?

I would monitor your bg levels more closely just until you get the dosage right, maybe set your alarm for 3am and do a quick test, with luck all will be fine.

Hi, I was on Insultard for a few years and then my carb counting course DSN moved me to Levemir because I started carb counting, and haven't had any major problems with it. Good luck RRB

I made the switch from porcine insulin 'back onto' levemir insulin
Without any difficuities via same time doing the shots and same low
dosage too .
Much better for being 'back' on the levemir too - I will add :)

Anna - why do you think Levemir worked for you this time? I'm just curious as I know you said you didn't feel good on it before - and wonder what's changed...?

Havent had the allergic reaction of the preservatives in it .

Same as the first time of using it ( it was so much more severe)
Painful large welts swelled up around each and every injection site .
Became sore to bend over or rubbed near my clothes etc .
Had to keep each shot far wide from the last previous shot .
As the swellings would take days to go down .

This second go at levemir has been so successful :)
Plus the Levemir onset time is far better for me than the porcine insulin's onset time .
With the porcine it was taking far too long to kick in with myself .
Leaving me with too high BG levels for too long a time - not good .
Hence the re-trying of levemir insulin .

Hi all. I can understand from your replies that Levemir is a good insulin:) I haven't startet yet but is planning
in a couple of days. It's a good idea to check my bs level during nigtht time just to be sure. It's not that i have had
any problems with insulatard only my levels are not just stable during the day. Just hope now that
with the new levemir i don't react allergic in some wayo_O
