Type of diabetes
Treatment type
Non-insulin injectable medication (incretin mimetics)
Am I the only type 2 diabetic that has been able to eat what I like?

After being diagnosed about 2 months ago my readings went from 21.5 down to below 7 fasting and under 8.5 2 hours later. The only thing I have cut out are sugar, sweets and chocolate and beer although I did have a excessive night last Saturday (beer lots and curry) but took my meter out and to my surprise my readings before and after were below 7 and I did have a few of the after eights after the meal haha. I still eat potatoes pasta and wholemeal bread but my readings average out to around 8.

I think I'm just one lucky so and so.....

Well to drop that amount in 2 months is great, you are heading in the right direction, maybe some portion control on what you are eating now will help improve it even more, big, well done from me

Errm I can eat what i like too, but I've chosen not to like starchy sugary carbs that play h*ll with my glucose levels. :p:p

I also think you're doing well but could probably do better still (and be safer) if you watch those carbohydrates!

Good luck with the ND diet.
I think you have done really well cutting out sugar etc;
You may have to consider changing beer to spirits in moderation of course.

Thanks izzzi not really a big spirit drinker so we shall see will be keeping a diary of online posts to let people know how I'm getting on with the ND diet got next set of blood tests next week so should be interesting :)

Wow! This went from you happy about being able to eat what you like to wanting to go on the Newcastle diet pretty quickly! Anyway, you may want to discuss this with your doctor first. I think that medical supervision is recommended for this diet. Good luck.

The only way I can eat what I like is to whack in more insulin. Not advisable as a general rule. Bread and potatoes are my nemesis but I have serverly cut down. I'm around 75g carbs per day. However, the insulin stash in the fridge could shrink alarmingly over Xmas.. ;). If I go over 7 at 2 hours I'm devastated.

Ate a large bar of 90% dark chocolate 2 hours ago as a Saturday night treat and just checked my BG and it surprised me as being 4.7

You might also need to check an hour after eating as well to see what your level was then. Some foods are slower release, and will spike much later, and they would need to be tested for again at, for example, 3 hours or more.

What was the carbohydrate content - the bar I eat (Lindt 85% cocoa) has just under 20 carbs per bar, which is getting on for 2 meals worth for me. I think you'll find that many of us on just oral medication would choose to eat just one, or two pieces at the most, so we limit ourselves to 2 to 4 grams of carbs worth.

That's what I normally do but I wanted to try it as more of an experiment to see the effects of a whole bar. My BG 2 hours before that was 7.2 after eating a casserole consisting of potatoes and some basmati rice
