Good morning Rose

I think we are having the mildest December ever, or at least since formal records are kept.

The roses are actually in a neighbor's garden rather than my own but they are very beautiful so I thought I might share.

Have a great week.

Pavlos

Well thank you for sharing :)

Where do you live? Your photos always look like from a hot and beautiful climate

5.3 for me this morning. One dog woke me barking as I was drifting of to sleep. He's outdoors and had obvs heard something (Sainsbury's deliveries I think) Moo who comes upstairs wth me at night wanted out 3 times and was rudely awoken by all 3 house dogs barking at someone's posting a "clothes collection" bag thru door at 8am :-(. Remembering I've a parcel coming sometime today reluctantly go up! Good morning everyone :-)

The delights of dog ownership, we have an over protective black lab gun dog, slightest movement in or out of the house can cause her to start, but would not change her for anything.ImageUploadedByDCUK Forum1418030759.839107.jpg

Had my first break from my very low calorie low carb diet yesterday as we were at an afternoon family celebration with a sit-down meal. I'd only eaten 200 calories prior to the bash but I reckon my meal (starter, main and cheese) was probably at least 1500 calories (the cheese was nice!). I did avoid carbs (no lemon or chocolate tart for me, or birthday cake, potatoes, cheese crackers, etc., same with drinks) though. Considering I have been targeting 700 calories for the last few weeks and yesterday I probably had on the way to 2000, it was still under my daily neutral calories threshold of 2500 calories. I wasn't able to do a test last night but did this morning. This time I managed a good supply of the red stuff and the reading was 5.6. I am still not that confident that I am getting consistent results so I did another one immediately and that was 6.4. Is that good or bad? I have mentioned before that a venous fasting test was 4.5 and there seems to be conflicting opinion whether or not capillary and venous tests can be comparable. I'm using an SD Codefree tester. Most of my morning tests seem to be around 5-6.

6.1 today. Slept in - need to get back in habit of taking it earlier really as my fasting period is getting over 12 hours when it was only about 8. And Mr E is getting a bit rubbish at fetching a morning coffee puck me up these days.

A venous and capillary fasting glucose counts are not directly comparable. In my own experience venous gives me slightly lower results but this is based on very few observations ( as I do not have that many venous results to compare).

I would consider the trend in your self test results more important until you get your A1c. Your numbers seem to be generally quite good.

Restricting your carb intake from 2500 to 700 seems very drastic. You must have incredible will power.

Are you trying to do a Newcastle type diet to try to reverse diabetes?

Otherwise if you are only doing for weight loss, it would appear to me as too drastic. With so few calories you are risking going into starvation mode and slowing your metabolism right down.

I would have thought a few more calories combined with some extra physical activity, if this is an option, might be preferable.

All the best.

i tested on little finger, it was 10 then tested on first finger, it vwas 13.1, so i went for the 10

The 10 sounds much better, but as the true figure could have been either or neither of them, I would have gone for 11.5 as an average. Not much point in kidding yourself, Ally.

It is better to average them. If I get wildly varying ones I tend to do several tests and average the ones that cluster and ignore any glaringly obvious outliers.

Yes I am doing a Newcastle style diet which I started on 18th November. Actually things are going surprisingly well with the diet and I am more active than ever; doing lots of walking and some interval training plus modest weights with the aim to improve cardiac fitness and counter any loss of muscle. Am eating small quantities of real food rather than going for diet formula shakes, etc.

Research I have seen does indicate a small percentage increase in numbers for capillary blood tests compared to lab venous tests but by less than 10%. The 5.6 to 6.4 difference from the same blood drop is not very impressive. That's almost 15%.

5.8 here, Monday again :(

5.1 before dinner
6.0 after 1 hour as had late dinner so did not do 2 hour
5.7 fasting
