I had just had a bath, was sorting myself out when all of a sudden everything started to spin and I felt very hot (I was still in the bathroom), I called the wife and made it to the bed room which was a lot cooler and laid on the bed. I got my wife to get my BG monitor and did a test, I had to prick my fingers three times as I was struggling to get enough bloody out of my finger (fingers were still a bit wrinkled from a long soak in the bath). The test came back at 5, 2 hrs earlier it was 5.8 which was the reading for 2 hrs after lunch (pre lunch was 5.9).

Not sure what happened their, based on those readings I don't think it was diabetic related, would anybody agree?? I am at the doctors on Tuesday evening (not diabetic related) so I will be asking him anyway.

looks like it was nothing to do with diabetes, I would guess lower blood pressure, or the bath too hot and you over heated

It is frightening when something like that happens, but it is highly unlikely to be diabetes related with a level in the 5's.

I suspect your blood pressure may have dropped a bit, or the bath (and bathroom due to steam) were too hot.

Thanks guys, I must be honest and say I do like a hot bath, as I said I am at the docs on Tuesday so will mention it and see if he wants to give me the once over.

Sounds like a BP problem to me. I've got a BP monitor with a decent set of two cuffs, one for slim arms and one for the more chunkier like me. Not that I have problems with high BP but as a diabetic and have diabetic kidney disease I check my pressure twice a week.

I would also say your bath was too hot,I hate very hot baths because of that reason.

I remember when I was tiny swimming lengths in the bath lol...sometimes a good soak and looking like a prune beats a shower lol

My son used to spend hours in the bath he always looked like a prune,I don't like it myself skin feels like rubber.

OK something strange has come to light. When I came over all weird I did a BS test and came up as 5. I did another test (pre evening meal) about 2hrs after my 5 reading and it gives me a reading of 6.3, the only thing I have had between the incident and my evening meal test was a small glass of flavoured water, which according to the details on the label is <0.5mg carbohydrates of which <0.5mg is sugar per 250ml. Would that of given me a 1.3 jump??

You might want to check if there were any sweeteners used in the flavoured water, they can be a bit tricky

I spoke to the doctor about it (I had a doctors appointment a couple of days later) and his explanation went something like this

When you have a hot bath your veins and artery dilate, when you get out of the bath all the blood rushes to your feet\legs this makes you slightly light headed, this is made slightly worse when you are a diabetic as your blood circulation is a bit more sluggish than a normal person.

Best recovery is to lay down in a cool room until to you feel normal again, apparently if you are led down you cant fall down (doctors words not mine).
