BS still high despite LC

Insulin
I have been diagnosed as Type 2 and have been taking Novomix 30 for about 4 months now. When I was originally diagnosed with diabetes back in July this year, my BS was often in the high teens and twenties, only going as low as 10 or 11. (hb1ac was 13) My BS has come down, but is still high (mostly above 7, often over 10 - latest hb1ac 9), despite the fact that I have been trying to eat a low carb diet, eating about 50-70g carb per day. I also do quite a lot of exercise (gym 4 x per week).

I usually take 8u of insulin twice a day, but when I put it up to 10u I nearly always hypo.

I've been thinking again about what the dietician originally said to me, that because I am taking a mixed insulin, I need to keep my carbs steady, ie the same for breakfast each day, then maybe not the same as breakfast, but keep lunches and dinner the same. I stopped eating carbs for breakfast because of huge spikes (porridge spiked me to 19!), and now avoid bread, pasta, rice etc, and get my carbs from milk, 9 bars, veg and (embarrassed to say) low fat crisps as a snack in the evening.

Any ideas as to how I can get my BS lower and more on an even keel? Because my mixed insulin is part rapid acting, should I eat more carbs?

Sorry I'm a diet controlled T2, so I can't help, but I'm bumping your post so others can see it. Generally I would say 'No' to eating more carbs, but I hope someone else comes along soon.:)

Do you eat too much protein? As this seems to raise bg too.

I would talk to your Dr about going on two insulin's, if the Dr hasn't brought it up yet.
one background/basal and one with meals/bolus, this should give you much better control

you may stay on 2 injections a day if that's your wish and you can get it to work for you..there's 50/50, 70/30 there is also 75/25, Talk to your Dr, the 75/25 may be better for LC and a 1/2 unit pen for fine adjustment..
also going from 8-10 is a 25% increase and maybe too much at one time
