Ketosis

Thank you Lucy.....sounds like a plan! Not taking huge amount of bolus insulin since have big carb ratio as still honeymooning! But bloods have never been more stable!
 
I am type 2 on insulin and showed ketones in urine that was checked by my GP. I have been very thirsty and so tired. Spoke to my DSN today and they are thinking I might be a slow developing Type 1. Now been issued with a Glucomen LX Plus meter and B-Ketone blood testing strips.

Keri you are fine. As long as your BG stays good, ketones of 8 mg/dl are nothing to worry about and probably temporary anyway. You don't need to check ketones with BG below about 13, unless you are curious about whether you are in nutritional ketosis.
 
Urine doesn't always reflect blood ketones, but is a good first line diagnostic as blood ketone strips are expensive.

I saw a 4.0 on ketostix the other day and found it was only 2.4 when I tested blood ketones.
(checked BG at the same time just to be sure)

Same here. My sticks showed 4 and my blood showed 0.6 :)
 
drink plenty, add some salt because you are flushing fluid and you have cut your processed salt,
if your kidneys are ok, you can add more protein that will convert to glucose or if you really have to and you aren't subject to carb cravings, a 'little' more carb for a few days and extend the keto adaptation

Thanks everyone, have tried to include more salt and will drink more water! So surprised that I'm not hungry! It's brilliant!
 
Good black coffee with 15-30g butter and 10-30g coconut oil, whizzed with a stick blender.

Your reflex may well be YUK, but counterfactually, it's totally yummy. Like coffee with cream, but actually better.

I use c. 20g butter and 10g coconut oil. Others - Rob knows all about this - go for 30/30.

Well ATM I have 3 stone to lose so prob not yet but I had been wondering how not to lose weight once it's off :)

Update: urine strip showed 8. Blood showed 1.0. Glucose under 6 all day :)

Even so, don't skimp on the fat Emmotha. You might try playing with the totals on the nutritional calculator. Jenny Ruhl's one. You can choose how fast you want to lose weight. I'm on 80% fat but not everyone has to be. Still melting weight off BTW.
 
Or you can also try Carbs & Cals. I put lots of my own items in there and now it's very handy. Paid version better.
 
Hello to all, I am learning all the time about progress that is being made. I will look up about Dr. Bernsteining and what it requires, and what is MFP? sorry don't know?!.
The Ketone testing is new to me as well, but I think I might have been in Ketosis a couple of years ago, as I went thinner and lighter, I have the dip sticks for urine testing, but when I did they did not change colour, good sign?.
So the learning and research goes on, for me. For now ttfn Karen
