advice needed

Hi guys, i was recently diagnosed with diabetes 2 a fortnite ago after some time of feeling unwell and rising blood pressure, blurred vision and rashes, anyway on the good advice of off someone on here i asked for a full printout of all the blood tests i have had from november 2013 so as i could study them, and i was hocked at what i have seen, my HBA1C results have been fluctuating from 47 to 43 and 47 again rite up until 2 weeks ago when i was diagnosed by a gluco tolerance test in hostpital, not once did the doctor ever say that i was prediabetic, also the results sho my kidneys have been functioning at only 53% from at least november 2013 and this is also news to me, my doctor never once mentioned this to me, i am on perindopril 8mgs , amlodapine 5mgs and indapamide 2.5 mgs for high blood pressure some years now so it seems he hasnt either acted on this info or he just hasnt looked at it, out of 20 pages of the printout 10 were titled ABNORMAL so i dont know whats happened and why he never told me, does this seem like negligence to you guys? im really lost in all this with having to deal with being diabetic and now to find out i have kidney disease, thanks in advance guys, kind regards stephen

This is quite common, apparently. I was prediabetic for two years before my GP mentioned it.

Where does it say you have 53% kidney function? I think it probably takes a bit more than a routine blood test to ascertain that sort of detail.

it says on my urea and electrolytes blood test that my gfr is calculated at 53

Ah. That's a numerical score, not a percentage. I think, ideally, they like that number a little higher than 53, but I'd urge you to take a bit of time to get used to a few things before wanting to tear people's heads off.

Most of us have those feelings of frustration and anger when we're diagnosed, but in reality, all we can do is move forward from where we are today. We can't turn the clock back. If you still feel aggrieved about things in a few days, make an appointment to see your GP to discuss your results, and you will have an opportunity to ask why some of your scores were not highlighted with you in the past. but, it's worth considering we need our medics onside. We don't need to be having constant pitch battles, so try to find things out without alienating someone whose help you may need, moving forward.

Er, I don't think so.

Once you've had a good read round this website, you'll see that the NHS has a very casual outlook towards diabetes in whatever form.

Their advice regarding carbohydrates is light-years away from the excellent advice you'll get here.
 
I am changing doctors, surely he should have acted on these results to save further damage to my kidneys by referring me to a renal consultant or some other for of action? By stalling and doing nothing he may have cost me a lot, it is not in my intrests to go looking to rip peoples heads off as you put it But how many other patients has he been letting down or possibly costing some precious time yo their lives, thats what im thinking, regards
 
If your eGFR was below recommended levels, but all your other kidney functions on the blood tests were normal, there is no reason for any action or treatment. You have to look at the whole picture. I suggest you have a Google round to see what eGFR is and how it relates to kidney disease.

As for the HbA1c results, I agree, you should have been warned, but this is far from unusual.
 
your eGFR can fluctuate. Normal range is >60. Similarly lower values are usually quoted in round numbers such as >50, >40 etc.

I suggest you go to your current doctor and have a civil conversation with him and explain how you feel. The grass ins't always greener at another practise. At least now you understand you have to be part of the whole process, which includes looking at your results. At some practises it is made difficult to actually access copied of results - some even apply a monetary charge.

Once your doctor realises you are engaged and want to be involved, you may notice a change to a more colaborative approach. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.
 
Andbreath, the printouts show the results have his name on them, it actually says tests owned by him theres a load of other tests like serums which are high, any tests that are normal are marked No Action Needed some tests are marked Need Repeated but never were!! I have made an appointment with hin for 2 weeks time to explain but will be with a solicitor tomorrow to take advice and have him look over me results, doctors seem only too happy now days to pust pills onto you and send you on your way, ive 3 very young children at home who have no one else so i need to live a long time for them, my question was does the guys on the forum think his actions are neglegence???? Sorry to be abrubt but life and time are more precious than saving some doctors feelings that cant be bothered to take the full 10 minutes hes supposed to give me to look at some results, its not as if hes not well paid for doing it!!
