i was told by my diabetes specialist today that I could get a plaster type blood glucose monitoring device from boots that I could scan with a phone to update my blood glucose levels....did he lie to me? As I can't see this anywhere... I am now so sick of pin pricks and money is not an object. Anyone have any advice on this. Thanks

Could possibly be on about a constant glucose monitor. Seen them while googling about. I am sure there be someone along soon with a better knowledge of these things than me

The freestyle libre looks like what he was describing, however does this require the scanner or can I use my smartphone. I shall do some more investigating, but thank you, this is a great help.

Wow i didn't know about that! I get pustular psoriasis on my fingertips and even when it isn't currently flaring it has left my skin very thin and very sensitive, and very painful to test, so i'll definitely be looking into this, thank you! :)

I can't see a reason for not creating an App for Android and iOS to read the result. I tested my attached-to-my-arm Libre sensor today with an NFC-reader on an Androidphone, and it recognized it, told me the serial number of the sensor but nothing more of course. It would be nothing less than fantastic if Abbott made this App available. They could even charge us 40£ for it – I would gladly pay to use my iPhone instead of the Libre scanner. And they wouldn't have to build and ship so many scanners, no shipping fees etc. They would make more money making an app for us.
Someone here know how to create Online Petitions?

I believe access to NFC on iPhone 6 is limited to Apple Pay, but I'm sure they could do it with Android

You, Sir, are correct. But remember the first iPhone? Compare that overpriced brick of locked hardware and software to iOS 8-devices. It's completely different.

I don't think it's going to take too long after the Apple Watch is out on the market before they let the NFC SDKs and APIs free for developers.

Good grief. Charging for NFC? Apple would charge you extra to read the screen and push the buttons if they could get away with it.

It's limited to their new 'pay for stuff using NFC with the iPhone 6' system (Apple Pay... only in the US at present) although I'm sure they'd like to charge us for swiping our Libre ;)

I checked it out . It costs lots of money for the initial set up . Over £150 I was quoted. Then you have to pay £20- 30 for the plasters per month as they only last 2 weeks. :-(

@rowan , I don't know what meter you are using at the moment, but some models are capable of testing from alternative sites too the fingertips. This may be a cheaper option for you than the Libre if you could use them ?
