Sorry can't use this site very good not sure how to post can anyone help I been type 2 for about 9 months I am very tired all time I sleep 12 hours and find it hard to get up in mornings I don't eat a lot but my fasting bloods around 7.9 any suggestions and I feel light headed

Hi and welcome. Can you let us know whether you fell a bit depressed at the moment? It's quite common for those with diabetes to feel a bit down and that can have more effect then the condition itself

Yes I feel very down and have been for a couple of weeks now

Hblac only 56 d n wonts me to go on meds and I'm not wanting to any advice please

What sort of foods do you eat - by eating the correct foods ie not too many carbs you may be able to reduce your BS levels through diet.

I don't eat a lot of bread or potatoes I eat bacon with fresh tomatoes grilled chicken and veg.weetabix porridge sometimes toast and bannana

Sorry more questions - are you on statins because I felt light headed and dizzy when I was on them hence why I no longer take them. Have you had your thyroid tested as having an under active thyroid can cause tiredness and lethargy amongst other things. Last question have you got a meter to test your own BS levels as the potatoes and bread are quite 'carby' which men's that they turns to glucose quickly when we eat them.

I have under active thyroid for years I take thyroxine yes I take stations don't like them and I bought a meter thanks for your help it more complicated than I realized

Hiya, no worries, you've made a great start . Have you been back to your GP yet? S/he knows more about you than we do, especially since you are bi-polar. But we can definitely help you understand your diabetes.

I got to go back in 2 weeks to see d nurse and I'm not fussy to take diabetic meds thanks for the help

Hi Julieemma
if you have a meter you can use that to help learn which foods you can eat without your blood sugar spiking
bacon , tomatoes, mushrooms, eggs , cheese are all great things that are low /no carb foods.
as said earlier porridge could be causing your blood sugar to spike.

If you can go in and show your diabetic nurse that you are keeping your bloods in a lower range you may be able to not have meds.

There is a section on this forum devoted to low carb high fat dieting which could be very beneficial to you.:)

I would put it as, avoid any wheat based products, starch unless it has an orangy colour to it, (they are better than white starch), Sugar (most of all).
I think seedy bread is not to bad but you have to look for the lowest carbs & highest fiber content. Burgen is not too bad, about the lowest carbs &higher fiber. priced at £1 in asda atm.
Oat based products some can tolerate in moderation.
The main thing is portion size, smaller amounts than you may have eaten previously.
But we react differently so it's mainly down to testing to see what suits yourself.
This should bring your blood glucose down.

Found a handy shopping list to point newly diagnosed in the right direction on what to buy until you get the hang of things.
A Sample Low Carb Grocery List for Dieters

low carb grocery list
If you’ve just started a low carb diet, then your refrigerator probably needs an overhaul. So many common foods are packed with more carbs then you need.

Time to hit the grocery store!
If you’re looking for a ready-made low carb grocery list, here is one that you can print out and have on hand while shopping for groceries. Experience has taught me that low carb dieting involves a big portion of impulse control along with a decent-sized pinch of planning ahead. I have started shopping on a full stomach, armed with a low carb grocery list. This has made grocery shopping quick and effective. No longer do I feel threatened by the bakery at the super market!

I prefer to shop aisle by aisle, and that is how this list is put together. Please note, this list does not follow one particular diet. I would suggest you read every label for net carbohydrate count before you purchase anything. On average, foods that contain up to 5 grams of healthy carbohydrate per serving, are considered moderate to low carb. How you incorporate these healthy carb choices into your diet will make all the difference. The low carb dieter also has to shop for protein, fiber, grains, beverages, snacks, dessert and supplements.
