Confused new member

Bananas are bad? I didn't know that! One good thing is that I don't like fizzy drinks and always drink water although sometimes I have the no added sugar squash that i also found out isn't great.

Yep, bananas are the work of the devil for T2s ..... do NOT eat them until you work out whether you can after getting your BS under control.

Avocados ....... eat heaps of them.

Ive never seen an avocado let alone eaten one. Im ashamed to say I wouldn't know where to start or how they should be eaten/cooked or anything

Are they high in sugar too or ok?
The vegetable fruits are generally OK. Peppers and tomatoes can be a bit carby though so I don't recommend you have pounds of them at the same time.

Avocados are lovely when ripe. I have them with salt, pepper, herbs, dash of vinegar and olive oil. Or with mayo and prawns.

Then today will be the day I try my first! Hopefully it will be better than my breakfast omelette which was nice, i added some onion and a few slices of mixed peppers (lazy frozen ones) but would have been better if i hadnt unknowingly added HEAPS of egg shell that made it so sickeningly crunchy. There's just something about egg shell on my teeth that gives me chills down my spine

Google it :)

Cut them down the center, get rid of the pit, spoon out and eat ..... they are fantastic. ...... and then add Totto's suggestions. In fact, with prawns is an AMAZING idea :)

Oh dear that's auto correct for you. Obviously my phone is a bit of a prude and prefers tooth to tit lol

Hi Kay and welcome from me as well

Drop the bananas and that iced finger bun would be dynamite as well. FULL of sugars. Drink heaps of water, drop fizzy drinks and avoid starchy foods and wheat / wheat products and almost all breads.

Hang around .... we'll get you thru it

Ditto.

Hi & welcome.

Hello Kay and welcome.
I cant add much to the advice you have been given.
Stick with us and dont be afraid to ask any questions.
All the best

Thanks Patricia21. Speaking of questions, is too much protein a bad thing?

Im not sure how much to much is and we are all different.
I believe the liver dosent cope with vast amounts.
Someone who knows more than me will answer you.
I would say I have normal amounts, example a medium size steak.

2 hours after my omelette breakfast my bg is 8.9. Is this ok?

We can't answer that until you tell us what you were before you ate it! It is the actual rise that matters at this stage.

As for protein, some research says too much is bad for your kidneys, but this is mostly if you already have kidney disease. I eat 90 to 100g a day, which includes meat, fish, cheese, eggs, yogurt and so on.

On waking it was 7.5 im trying to be really economical with the strips and needles as they are very expensive. Ive just rang the Dr and I can have them prescribed but not until my appt 11 March :/ can't even get a phone consultation any earlier

That's not a bad rise then. The idea is to keep any rises below 2mmol/l preferably under 1.5mmol/l. If you are being economical with your strips, just test one meal a day, preferably your main meal. Test before and 2 hours after first bite.

Have you thought about buying a Codefree meter. The strips are so much cheaper than any other type. Whilst you are learning about food and what you can keep in your diet or discard, you really need a lot of strips. It's good your doctor will prescribe some for you, but I bet my last farthing he won't prescribe anywhere near enough.
