Confused new member

Hi Scottie waves back to you too. We can keep each other buoyed up and on the right track! :)

Ive never been seen for four years, at the appointment after being diagnosed in hospital i had a blood test, a foot check and was given an A4 computer print out. Never once was it suggested I should check my blood ever! It was only cos ive felt rubbish that I thought it would be a good idea. After reading on this forum that some gp's prescribe I thought I'd ring up and try my luck. He might still say no at the actual appt but hey the shy kid never gets the low carb biscuit lol
Very true Muggle, doesn't hurt to ask.

Thanks bluetit or tooth ☺️ i will look into that. I just got the aviva accu chek from asda yesterday for £10 and im ready running out of the supplies that came with it, but the price of the strips and needles on Amazon are going to be near enough £50 including delivery!
I have the Accu Chek Nano and buy my strips off eBay - paid £50.00 for 200 strips a couple of months ago.

Haven't eaten anything since dinner at 5pm. At 7 bg was 8.1, ive been for a walk and have tested before bed and it's up to 8.2. Ive only drank water today. Am I doing something wrong?

Are you saying it as 8.1 @ 2 hours post dinner and then 8.2 before bed Muggie?

I haven't tested before meals (low on strips), it was 8.1 2hrs after my dinner and I checked again before bed at 9:30 pm and it was up to 8.2. How can it have gone up if ive not eaten since 5 and only drank water? I can't get a grip on this

I don't think so Muggle, at one point when my BG was high, I was testing all the time and getting various readings. Then I learnt, from this site, just to test at fasting, before food and 2 hours post food as I was getting myself into a right state. I'd say, and I might possibly be wrong, to just test at those times to save worrying. See what your reading says @ fasting in the morning.

Hope you are not up all night again, and can relax knowing you are now getting the help you need. xx

Sorry, cross posted there. Maybe it's because you haven't eaten enough? Not too sure but I'm sure somebody knows more will be along shortly. Please don't worry.

Thanks Scottie, it's good to hear some reassuring words. I hope I sleep better too and that this new eating plan stops me needing the loo every hour!! Take care xx

Our meters are not accurate. They are allowed to be plus or minus 15% wrong. Readings of 8.1 and 8.2 are identical. There is no significant difference

This level of about 8 maybe what you are running at generally rather than it being a post meal spike. Without knowing where you started you won't know this. You may well not have had a spike at all, or by 2 hours you may have peaked earlier and dropped back down to base. Peaks vary as to when they happen, depending on the food eaten. Some are about 1hr, some 90 minutes, some 2 hours, or even later, or any time between. It isn't an exact science.

Hi Kay and welcome from me as well

Drop the bananas and that iced finger bun would be dynamite as well. FULL of sugars. Drink heaps of water, drop fizzy drinks and avoid starchy foods and wheat / wheat products and almost all breads.

Hang around .... we'll get you thru it

Is that ALL fizzy drinks or just sweet ones? My dietician told me a few days ago not to drink sparkling mineral water but I omitted to ask why. I usually go through about a litre in a week - use it for taking pills which seem harder to swallow with plain water.

Hi Annb :)

Test if you wish on sugar free soft drinks, but for me, they are on the banned list. No idea why you'd be warned off (straight) mineral water

Best Mike

Hi Mike D

Sugar free (ie sweetened with artificial sweeteners) drinks are a no no for me too. Partly because I don't like sweet things, partly because they taste awful and partly because artificial sweeteners make me ill! I don't think going through about a litre of carbonated water a week can do me any harm but I do retain fluid and that is a major problem for me and maybe my little pecadillo is my undoing. I don't know. Possibly it's too high in salts? Though I'm pretty sure that tap water will have some mineral salts in it aw well.

Hi Annb

I'd go back and ask why the objections. Dunno about your tap water but I do dink spring water a lot

Take care

Mike
