What do you guys do on days you REALLY crave something sweet? No ingredients yet to make the yummy biscuits and cake recipes I got last night, ive just had my lunch and I could murder some biscuits :(

I just have a coffee with a couple of spoonsful of cream. That isn't really a new thing for me. It has always been my personal comfort food. That or a coffee made with all milk, but that wouldn't do for me now due to diabetes.

Can you use sweeteners?

It doesn't happen over night, cravings are there whether we like it or not, it gets a little easier every day to say 'No' to the sugar bombs. I take my sugar addiction very seriously, we condition our minds with systems of rewards. Feel sad? eat chocolate, feel happy? have a sweet treat, hungry? quick bicky.

The further down the line with t1 i get the more i look at cakes, biscuits, sweets, chocolates etc as repulsive because of being t1 but we are trained from an early age to enjoy sugar over real food. This video i watched last halloween makes me lol as well as become very concerned over how its clearly an addictive reaction the kids have over sweets.

For me its more about breaking the conditioned addiction that i have, not replacing it with an alternative. I have homemade flapjacks in the cupboard but they are for emergency bg lows when i'm exercising or out and about.

Agree @Spencer67. It's so hard at times. I will have a square of 85% chocolate or peanut butter or a 9 bar. Hope the cravings soon go.

Low carb hot choc usually does it for me.

But I actually get sweet cravings very rarely. More often they are mash, chip, toast or naan cravings...

Cheese usually does it, in that case.

I did Mexican chicken for lunch using one of those Maggi bags. I used the grated cauliflower to substitute rice, while it was pleasant enough and I did enjoy it i couldn't help eyeing up the rice my son was scoffing lol.

Hi @Brunneria - is the low carb hot choc with cream & dark choc? Thx

Yup. :D

I make it with good quality cocoa powder (not sweetened hot choc).

So I boil the kettle
and mix a teasp or so of cocoa
with about 1.5 tsp of sugar substitute (I use erythritol, or xylitol)
into a paste with a little water
Then top up with hot water
and add cream to taste

You can use powdered coconut instead of cream, if you want dairy free,
And add drops of peppermint or orange or caramel essence, if you like.

All quantities depend on your preferences and the size of your mug.

Ooooh delish - thank you - will try that @Brunneria.

I had the same problem and was advised, among other things, to eat more fat. I've found a good dollop of full fat greek yogurt, or some cream cheese straight out of the pot, has helped me through!

Can I just clear that up - I don't mean drugs (!) I means nut/seed bar called '9 bar' - several flavours!!! Thanks!
I'm sure you didnt mean that, my sense of humor can be a bit contemporary and inappropriate for this forum i've noticed so i will be a little more conservative from now on.
