I am Type 1 diabetic and probably categorised as being very fit. Until now I have resisted weights but now have started Olympic Bar weight training. I upped my Protein intake considerably for the muscle recovery but resisted carbs due to the problem of having to have insulin there afterwards. The viscious circle worries me as I've been there like most..I am not wanting he man looks but lean muscle to burn more fat currently 15%..
What I see is immediately after training I will be possibly in a Catabolic state given that any Glycogen stores would be used and energy for repair would be coming from the very muscles I am working. Does anyone thing Dextrose along with the protein be helpful in fast acting the anabolic state. Of course with that spike I would probably need a wee bit of insulin to counteract it.
Do anyone of you Medics or Gym Junkies have a view.
Thanks,
Gus
