I was diagnosed last month with, steroid induced, type 2 diabetes. I've been given an Accu-check monitoring kit and I have attended a DESMOND education day. I've also been reading some of your threads. I think I'm suffering from information overload trying to take it all in!!!

A warm welcome to the forum.

Yes it can become overwhelming when your newly diagnosed and trying to take in as much information as you can.

Hi & welcome
I really feel for you knowing what it's like at the start but the main thing is to look at your diet.. yes the Nhs will have said to still eat carbs at every meal, but they fail to tell you that by doing so you may well get worse & not gain control as many have found on here.
If you were a person that included sugar in your diet eg sweet, chocolate, fizzy drinks, well they are a thing of the past. Cutting right back on starch eg potatoes pasta, rice etc is a must aswell as carbohydrate intake, wheat products etc. Increasing your veg, not not underground veg so much as these are starchy & increasing your fats by using good oils to cook & dress salads & not using low fat products & butter instead of marg. Trust the many on her that live with the condition day in day out, it's the best way to gain control .

Hi welcome :)

Have a read of the first item linked in my sig below, and Trudi Deakin's book is a good intro.

Yes, you're right they did say I could eat carbs and it was all about portion control. It is confusing but at least I won't have to force myself to eat carrots, I hate the **** things. LOL. I do have a sweet tooth but not for fizzy drinks, unless the cork pops out of the bottle!

What is ' LCHF with Glycemic load' please

Thanks for the welcome Rod. Looks like I'll have plenty of bedtime reading, that's if I can stay awake of course!
