blood glucose meters

hi
does anyone know if there are any free blood glucose monitors for type 2 diabetics, i see plenty for type 1
 
I thought being type 2 you would have to check your blood sugar if the doctor won't give you one you could try asking your diabetic nurse if you have to buy one one the price of the test strips is crazy if i remember correctly
 
Unfortunately most t2s wont get a meter, most self funders on here get the Codefree meter and test strips from Home Health as the strips are cheaper and if you but 10 pots of strips you get a good discount

davey your right about checking blood, i done the low carb thing 10 years ago and ended up in hospital twice for going too low.... thats why i want a meter now to go low carb again but checking blood this time

Of course you need a meter. It is the most essential tool a type 2 can have for testing before and after meals to see what that meal has done to your levels, and thereby helping with carb portion control and learning which foods your body can cope with, or can't cope with.

Many of us on here use the Codefree as detailed above by @satindoll

The thing is the free meters can be used by all diabetics, the meter doesn't care what type you are, its getting gps and dsn's to agree you need one, if you are on insulin you have a better chance of getting a meter but your strips may be restricted in number as they say you don't need to test, but if you drive you must test its the law,
