Has any else had trouble with their sharps bin collection ?

My council have never picked up my sharps bin, not even an option where I live. Take it to your GP's, they are suppose to take it for safe disposal. I get a new one as part of my prescription. As to your comment on GP's are already stretched, so are councils so it doesn't matter where they go as long as they are disposed of safely.

My GP won't take it neither will my pharmacy
 
Yes a some people on here have said that they take it to their doctors and others said the council collect it like me, I'd rather take it to the doctors so this would never happen
 
My box has finally been collected and replaced! It's took another phone call today but we got an apology and someone was sent straight out, hopefully that's the last time it happenes thanks to everyone for responding

Your sentence : - @Scardoc If you can pop over to your GP and pharmacy then why do you need the bin collected? Is because the service is widely available, so why shouldn't people use it ?? Also I would rather it was collected from outside my house, rather than me carry it, by walking down to the pharmacy :wideyed: Health and safety does come to mind.

Health and safety, carrying a sharps container? Are you fearful of being mugged for it, or something?

Couldn't it now have waited until Tuesday? Surely you could have found somewhere safe to keep any overflow sharps for a few days? It seems very costly to send a driver to pick up one bin......

Excuse me? No it could not have waited ive been waiting nearly 3 weeks for them to come and collect it and the fact they missed it on two separate pick up days, I did keep the overflow safe but near on 3 weeks worth of needles was a lot and, the customer service I received was dreadful! If they did their job properly and picked it up when they was meant to then this would never have be an issue. Also I only wrote on here for a bit of advise and if any one else had this happen before.. I'm not looking for people to be making rude comments thank you

When I need my needles collected I ring the waste department at my local council and arrange for them to pick them up, the needle collection company come past my area every Tuesday so Tuesday is always the day for needle collection.
I leave my needle outside my front door and in the afternoon the old needle box has gone and been replaced for a new one, but this time no one came to collect my box I've phoned the waste department and spoke to them and it is under investigation as to why it wasn't collected even though the men collecting my box had logged that they collected it?! It's now been nearly 3 weeks and still no one has came out to collect it and my needles I've used since I'm just putting in a cup onto of my fridge as I have no where else to them, my partner phoned this morning to put in a compliant and to ask why no one has been round to collect them yet, the man at the other end of the phone was very rude and said there's nothing he can do and that it was still under investigation?!

I'm so angry at the fact the people who collect the needles came past where I live every Tuesday and can't collect my old box is something I don't understand, and I live in a flat so my needles are left outside my front door in the communal hall everyone is very understanding but there are young children who also live in my block and I myself have a 3 year old son surely it's a risk having the needles laying around? I make sure they are out of his reach but still it's not on!

Has any else had this problem? And has anyone got any advise?

Mine still isn't full yet but I will take it to Sainsbury's Pharmacy - I'm sure they are supposed to take them. If not I'm sure our vet will dispose of it for me. Quite agree that it shouldn't be left around when there are kids about - kids are superb opening childproof containers so guess they wouldn't find the tubs to hard to get into if only to see what was inside

I don't know if that option is available where I am but have still to fill a tub yet.......and I've been testing well over a year ;)

That calls for a letter to the manager of the service if you don't have another number to ring for the place other than the person you have already spoken to. It is not only rude but unprofessional - I'm sure those in management would be appalled that someone has been spoken to like you have.....

I guess as the service is available in that area then the doctors and pharmacy don't get involved with collection.....

My astonishment is not directed at you as they've told you to use that service. I just can't believe that, given what services are being cut around the country, this one is still in place! I wonder how many test strips could be funded instead?

Maybe the collection/delivery service also supplies the surgery so there won't be spare bins there
 
My bin hasn't been picked up since 2013 so no idea if there's a problem with my council :) On a serious note though if you have problems with a bin being full or not collected use an empty soft drinks can and put your needles in that, it's a lot safer than leaving them in a cup. :)

What's so funny about that? In some areas "druggies" for want of a better word will try anywhere for a potential source of drugs - there could be part used syringes of something in a sharps bin...... in any case a sharps bin is a "biohazard"

I think THREE weeks overdue is atrocious......it is the principle as well as the safety issue here... this lady has a THREE YEAR OLD CHILD .... children are very good at finding and opening things they shouldn't no matter where you put them out of reach....

I guess so. I'm still gobsmacked that given the current state of the country no one has had the foresight to realise that the one place, or two places, pretty much everyone who needs a sharps bin will visit fairly regularly are the GP surgery/hospital and the pharmacy. Surely it would be more economic to have a stash of bins there and a collection point for full bins as they are using them as well.

Perhaps I will add it to my 2020 party manifesto.
