Hi
This is my first post so bare with me while I waffle.
I'm on slimming world ee plan and so far lost 15 pounds. I'm a type 1 diabetic on an insulin pump. I am feeling exhausted at the moment as I hypo twice a day for the last week or so . I have lowered my background insulins. Is it a good sign that I'm needing less insulin as it's making me tired and grouchy and not wanting to diet anymore . Any other type 1 had issues with slimming world and hypos.
The other question do you syn your hypo treatment ?

Thanks for reading

If your having 2 hypo's a day then you need to reduce your insulin further, are you also bolusing less if your meals are lower in carbs?

Losing weight helps with insulin resistance so you might need to start from scratch and do basal testing then look at your I:C ratio's, I wouldn't continue with the diet if its making you feel unwell.

Thanks I'm going to make my adjustments to insulin and take a few weeks out and get my energy back and let me settle into routine again. I still have the tools to eat healthy and can exercise but less focus on the word diet and more on managing those sugar levels. Slow and steady will win the race

Yes, it's a good sign. It means you are losing weight! There's less of you, so you don't need so much insulin.I wouldn't stop the diet for a few weeks. I would adjust my insulin and continue with the diet. With a pump it shouldn't take you more than three days to adjust successfully. It's much quicker than with MDIs. If you stop your diet "for a few weeks" then you won't need to make the adjustments and your weight will go back up!

As you lose weight you will KEEP ON needing to adjust your doses downwards, so you may as well learn to do it effectively now.

The reason you are tired is due to the hypos, so once you have lowered your insulin and cut out the hypos things will improve. Well done on your weight loss :)

Thank you everyone much appreciated feel much chipper now having a rant about it. Im just ratty from all the hypos but like you say lower the insulin less hypos and a much easier life for all that live with me lol

Understand about your hypos. I've had 11 in the last 3 and half days and it's knackering me. My basal is down to 0.35 today and I had still a hypo earlier.

I was off work for the past 2 weeks and the gentleness of my daily routine saw me with BG's in the 5-7 range almost daily. Now back at work and it's all gone to pot. Grrr!

Hi. Hope you don't mind me jumping in on your thread. Was about to post something similar but I have recently started weightwatchers, have only been doing it a few weeks so weight loss shouldn;t be accounting for hypos yet. When have done ww previously I was on mdi and in my naivety thought it would be easier on a pump as would just have to reduce amount bolusing and background would just remain the same. Not happening! Have had so many hypos in last week probably consumed my own bodyweight in glucose;). Have reduced background by 30% today, previously reduced breakfast carb ratio, but still hypoing so think it needs reducing further. As for exercising, very annoying that end up eating more glucose undoing any good work:(. In answer to your question sometimes I count hypo treatment other times not (seems very unfair having to use treat points to treat hypos which is certainly not a choice thing). Just good to know someone in similar situation. Think some background testing it needed (fasting days can't be bad for weight loss!) Don't give up, you sound like you have done fab so far:) x
