Just rang and got my HB1AC result which was 40 .. ... 3 months ago it was 44
(pre diabetic ) ..nurse said the blood sugar was 6.2 (which i did not understand and she is one not to be questioned !!! ) wonder did she mean 6.2% .anyone care to take a stab at that ... Anyway, was really pleased with my 40 and i wish to thank anyone that gave me such excellent help/ tips dos and donts on the forum as i certainly got no help from D/N .. she was not pleased when i told her i was testing .. will make an appointment with my dr and maybe hear more from her .. Dr did not mind me testing as i did show her my record book last time i was in with her and she thought reading were good then ..also congratulated me on my weight loss .. in fact she said she wished all her pre diabetic patients were as good as i was ... i can honestly say that only for this excellent forum my pre diabetic would have not have gone this way .. Again thanks to all ..Will keep on the forum and hope that in 6 months time when i get my next HB1AC done it will be as good as this one .. Thanks xxxx

Result::))

Think the 6.2 is the blood result at the time the 40 is the average over 3 month may be wrong though

Hi and well done,
Don't know where the 6.2 comes from (unless you had a fasting also when you have the HbA1c) 6.6 is the average mmol/l for a HbA1c of 40, you can do that on the HbA1c calculator http://www.diabetes.co.uk/hba1c-to-blood-sugar-level-converter.html.

You are allowed to ask for a print out, if you go back ask at reception, they should do it for you, and a print out of any other tests they did like Cholesterol.

Hi Neil .. i had a fasting done when i went for my Hb1ac ..now it makes sence .. yes will get a print out when i am at the drx this week .. thanks for that

Well done @dvd, good work :)

Hi,I was diagnosed pre-diabetic about 9 months ago i didn't take it on board as I have always had a healthy diet until I went for blood test after 6 months and then received a letter the day before I went on holiday telling me to go for a repeat hb1ac .while on holiday had awful weather so decided to google it and was horrified and read all the info and really pulled the reins in.went for test and results at higher end.i am determined that if this does progress to t2 then it won't be for the lack of trying.my sister was diagnosed t2 2 years ago.i am so confused reading everything ,I went on low carb low sugar as much as I could am now not sure if this is right.i have a diabetic cookbook and compared my recipes to these and not much different didn't have to do much tweaking I have always cooked from scratch even make 75% of my own bread.i like to know what's in my food.i see on here it is advisable to get a meter if so what is the easiest and best one? I would welcome any advice on how to get to grips with carbs and sugars cos now I'm doubting I've been doing it right ,thank you

can anyone tell me the difference between Hba1c and Ha1c?

Thanks Lynn1. How bad is 55 then? in jan it was 49 and end of march 55. The dr put me on metformin. my fasting readings are between 4.7 and 5.5. Two hous after meal between 5.5 and 5.9. Any chance i will be off metformin?
