Hello fellow suffers of diabetes,

I recall someone mentioning a while back they had a spread sheet or some similar app Excel / Access (database or some such) that could be used on a computer that could be beneficial to our controlling T2D. I've tried looking for it today but I can't locate the link. Any help here would be appreciated!

I don't recall ever seeing an Excel or Access App. If it's any help, I'm no techno wizard, in fact I would probably be called an ignoramus, but I do know my way round Excel to a certain degree and have managed to devise a spreadsheet, where I can fill in the details of my meals and the bg levels. I just label the columns pre meals and post meals, food eaten and bg readings. It does give me some insight as to what I can get away with and what I should really avoid. If I was more clued up, it might give me pretty little graphs as well, but I don't have a clue how to go about that. I'm sure Excel has a zillion things it can do that I'm totally unaware of, but as I say, I'm somewhat of a dinosaur about all things technical.

I don't use one on a computer, but I do use an app on my tablet that can generate results into tables and assorted graphs, gives you averages etc. I then e-mail graphics to myself on the PC and print them out for when I see or talk to my DN. I think maybe some of the computer based software for tracking comes with some of the meters.

There are however lots of different Android style apps out there (most free) if you have a phone or tablet, so you might have to try a few until you find one that you like and fits your particular needs and you also need to be mindful when looking at them, that as many are US developed, they often use US units not the mmol/l we use in the UK - so ensure that the one you use allows you to select units.

The app I use is called On Track by Medivo and having tried many, this one fits the bill for me personally. I choose to track glucose, insulin, weight and exercise, but don't use it to track carbs, although it will.

I think a lot of people use My Fitness Pal, but for some reason, I've been unable to get on with that one, it never felt intuitive to use. It is however very sophisticated and much more fully featured than the one I use.

I have been using Glucose Recorder by Cappable Limited for around 18 months now. I like the automatically generated graphs it produces

I think it is free for the first month, then around £2.50 if you wish to continue using it.
Very Easy to use, great for analysing your BG level trends over previous months. Eg. The graphs indicate whether your BG levels are gradually rising or falling over previous weeks / months

Apart from my Excel spreadsheet, I use the Diabetes:M app for my tablet, but as others have said, there are many Apps out there for you to choose from.

One program thats recommended is the one that @Ian DP uses. Ive tagged him so he may come along.

Otherwise, another forum member developed this app which he is happy to be contacted about.

Here it is: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/writing-bg-management-app.56644/

@LucySW

Thanks for finding this app. This was the one I wanted to find. Life is too short for cranky doctors who think we don't have a clue nor do we care. I now understand why when we T2D sufferers who are taking Metformin are not ordered a meter (at least here in the US). This makes sense.. Since seeing my doctor about a month ago he wanted me to get all fired up about giving him some data points. Kudos to @Andrew Colvin for writing such a powerful tool, Andrew, thank you!

As for my weight loss my bicycle has become my new best friend. I have a pair of new shiny wheels and a set of new handlebars. We have a few hills locally but not too many but what is important is the exercise. My BMI as of yesterday morning is 23.8 and alas I can pinch more than an inch around my waist. So if I can pinch that much I've got to keep exercising to change my physical build to have a more lean muscle mass to drive out the excess fats of my liver and pancreas. Good news is I've started using new jeans that have been in storage for about 20 years 555's with a 34" waist! & Yes my bottom looks smaller! LOL

I am putting a link in here to @Andrew Colvin 's thread http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/writing-bg-management-app.56644/ so it may be easier for fellow sufferers to find and use..
