As I'm now sure my 640G pump (my 3rd) is working properly and that the air in tubing problem I had was due to the reservoirs and/or Mio sets, here are the batch numbers of the ones I returned to Medtronic.

Reservoirs: MMT 326A Lot Number HG0HBHF

Mio sets: MMT 975 Lot Number 5097135

Medtronic sent me new pumps when I told them air was coming into the tubing when I disconnected the pump. Also, when I raised the disconnected tubing above the pump, the higher I raised it, the longer the line of air that came in.

After the same problem appeared in my 3rd new pump, I suggested to Medtronic that maybe it was a bad batch of reservoirs and/or Mio infusion sets.

I was asked various questions about the reservoirs and told they would replace them along with the Mios. I asked if the fault was more likely to be with the reservoirs and was told it could be either, or maybe a combination of those particular batches.

If you are using these reservoirs and/or Mios and have been experiencing unexpected highs, I'd advise disconnecting and raising the tubing to see if air enters. Also, after disconnecting for bath, shower or anything else, before reconnecting, use Fill Cannula to make sure no air has entered the needle section. If insulin doesn't come out at once, contact Medtronic.

Are you sure you have tightened the connector to the cartridge properly? :) Many have been caught out with this.
