So, doing an overnight trip for the company and staying at Mr Henry's favourite hotel because it's right opposite the client's site.

Wake up with BG of 5.8, ok. Injected as normal, had very similar breakfast to what I'd have at home. Walked to client site, had meeting and went back to hotel to pick up the car. Checked BG and it was 15.5! Washed hands again and rechecked, 14.7.

Looking for answers, I discover that the little pink sachets of 'sweetener' they provide in the breakfast room that I'd sprinkled liberally into my 2 cups of coffee is full of dextrose.

Ok. As a diabetic I probably should have checked for myself BEFORE I chucked it in my coffee but a 'sweetener'.

I would e mail them with a complaint, it may stop it happening to another diabetic.

Lenny Henry has told how he lost three and half stone to save his life.

The 56-year-old recently knighted star said he was determined to lose weight after his mum was killed by diabetes and he was warned the same could happen to him.

In a Daily Mail magazine interview on Saturday Lenny said: “My mum died from it and the doctor warned me I was heading the same way.

“Dieting is tedious but I feel better for it. I was finding it difficult to get in and out of the car.

“It’s hard but like anything, if you put your mind to it you can do it.”

Lenny’s weight loss isn’t the only change to his life in recent years.

He split from wife Dawn French in 2010 after 25 years and is now with theatre producer Lisa Makin.

And he is also winning roles as a serious actor and presenter.

He said: “I’m having lots of fun at the moment.”
