Type of diabetes
Type 2
Treatment type
Tablets (oral)
Hi hoping someone has experienced this....I am a newbie here I was diagnosed with type 2 a couple of years ago and with no symptoms I confess I didn't really take it seriously, it was in fact a medium who suggested I should get tested ( I know madness )..anyway a few months ago the doctor put me on metformin taking one 500mg tablet twice a day, at first I suffered upset stomachs ( to put it politely ) but it soon settled down. I had a blood test a couple of month ago and my levels were still quite high so the diabetic nurse told me to take 2 tablets morning and night, I soon had pretty rough upset stomachs with many times only just making it to the loo in time... I went back to just one tablet morning and night with the doctors approval, but still had an upset stomach,I am in the process of trying no wheat products to see what happens and it seems ok ( still got a way to go it's early days ) I'm now wondering if I have a gluten problem and I hope this doesn't sound stupid but is there any chance a combination of metformin and wheat is causing this issue, or am I barking up the wrong tree.......tia

Hi chefdee, welcome to the forums,

What type of metformin are you using? If you're not on the slow release type then ask your DN if you can try it.

It doesn't say anything about slow release on the box so I will ask my DN about changing
Thank you for taking the trouble to reply

You're welcome. ☺. It's not guaranteed to correct the issue but many forum members report that SR metformin has helped them.
