Hi,
I've just been diagnosed with type 2 after being in hospital with something unrelated.
I have a couple of questions that hopefully someone could help answer for me please.
The first one is it ok to eat dried fruit ?
And is there a yogurt or similar dessert that I can eat ?
Also any ideas for snacks between meals please x
 
Nooo...dried fruit is worse than fresh. Raisins are on my banned list of foods but I like grapes.
 
A handful of nuts but don't go too mad.
Stick of celery wrapped in a slice of ham (with some coleslaw if you can handle the drips)
Chicken leg/thigh.

My levels are high at the moment as the medication isn't right yet, I've only been out of hospital since Tuesday, my levels sit between 20 and 24 ish at the moment xx

I can't stand celery but maybe the chicken wrapped on ham, that sounds really nice actually!
Is it just natural yogurt that can be eaten ?
I'm missing something sweet to eat lol
 
Hi and welcome. Full fat Greek yoghurt is usually recommended on here. Chuck in a few strawberries, raspberries or blueberries for sweetness. As time goes by you may find you need less sweetness in food generally.
There are recipes for some ingenious puddings on here if you have a look.

I have only just joined this forum and so haven't had time to look around properly but I will make a point of looking at the recipes, I love cooking I just need to adjust to cooking in a different way I guess ?
You are all so helpful here and I'm really grateful for all of the advice x
 
I'm just out of hospital too, Wednesday after shoulder surgery. Keep in mind whilst you're unwell and recovering your blood sugars tend to be higher. Get well soon!
 
Hi and welcome. In the early days you can use artificial sweeteners as you wean yourself off sweet food and then these can be reduced. You do get used to eating less sweet things as time progresses. I now like my 85% Dark Chocolate and dislike over-sweet milk chocolate. Nuts and berries are good for snacking; also cheese. When it comes to cooking etc just leave out sugar or honey in any recipe or at least only use a fraction.

I have a clot on my spleen, the artery is blocked and a large part of the spleen has died, I am also having to inject a blood thinner each evening ( I'm not sure if this has any effect on my sugar levels )
I hope you heal soon too xx

Well you can do without your spleen if it gets worse. It is a handy little organ cleaning out your blood and for your immune system. Just check your blood sugars more often if they are higher than usual.

Yes you're right you can but I've had my gall bladder removed and loosing the spleen too would leave quite a big void and I would be prone to all types of infection, this is why they didn't remove it while I was in hospital xx

Some of the advice is good, some not so. I tried Canderel (Aspartame) for tea and cooking and made me crave sugar even more as your body will miss it. It also gave me headaches and twitches at night. My DSN said just go back to sugar but reduce it to a minimum.

Well your like me - bits missing...98% human now lol. I had more than half my colon removed, had a colostomy for 3 years which was reversed in 2012. After my surgeries it was common for my sugars to be high.

Sorry to be a pain DeejayR but I've searched the forum and can't seem to find the recipe section, could you please point me in the right direction x
