Pancreas and Kidney Transplant

New to the forum but long-term diabetic (46 years).

After all that insulin I have kidney damage. GFR down to 21 and obviously looking at transplant/dialysis in a couple of years.

I have now been referred for consideration at Oxford John Radcliffe but my consultant gas said that my age - 62 - might go against me. Apart from that I am pretty healthy with no other complications and no heart problems.

Does anyone have any ideas if and what the age restriction would be?

I'm not too sure about the age restriction issue, have you thought about contacting Diabetes UK to see if they can help here, either way I wish you the best of luck.
 
Welcome, sorry to hear that your poor old kidneys are flagging. You might find this interesting: https://www.kidneyresearchuk.org/health-information/kidney-transplantation. The important bit is near the top and it says age is not a consideration. My father, long term type II is now 88, so hopefully you'll do better than that giving you at least 25 years.

So, something from a research organisation and something from the NHS.
I'll just say all the very best, I hope it all works out well for you.

Sorry to hear of your plight. I will be of help if i can, i had my kidney/ pancreas transplant 11 years ago at the age of 37. Never looked back, :-)
