I have had my Ileostomy for 40 years. Things have certainly changed a lot since then. I had Crohn;s Disease for 10 years prior to my surgery but the doctors didn't know what the problem was. I don't think they knew much about the disease back then. I have had ups and downs throughout this period and now I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I read in the diabetic newsletter recently that Metformin works mainly in the large intestine. I tried taking it and couldn't tolerate it at all. I read in the Wheat Belly book that gluten is a major cause of intestinal problems. Since then I have gone mostly Gluten Free in diet and sugar free for the diabetes. My numbers bounce up and down occasionally and I am currently trying to lose about 45 pounds. So I watch my calories and my intake of foods. Now they tell me my triglycerides are too high so they want to put me on more medication. I'm not really convinced that more medication is always the answer. I don't like putting all those chemicals into my body. I Would appreciate if anyone has any suggestions on keeping my sugar level down and lowering my triglycerides naturally.
