hello!

since getting diabetes, I noticed that if I am a bit deprived of sleep, ie. if I sleep for 5-6 hours, I cannot hold my eyes opened the next day around 9-10am

I remember myself years ago, I didn't have that problem so intense

so I wonder if diabetes interfere with sleepiness I feel several times in a day?? I feel around 9am, then around 1pm after lunch and then around 6pm.

what astonishes me is that the sleepiness is overwhelming, ie. I cannot literaly keep my eyes opened

any input please?

What are your glucose levels like generally, and specifically when you feel sleepy?

What times are you eating and what do you eat? If your blood glucose levels go high after eating, the sleepiness can indeed be "overwhelming". That is the word I used to describe the sleepiness I used to feel.

I haven't measured my glucose at these times. So there is a connection between the level of glucose and sleepiness?

Yes, there is. See what your test results at these times are like.

Also, you could have obstructive sleep apnoea. But check your sugars first as they are the more likely cause I think.

Before I was diagnosed, I would have my standard breakfast of porridge with prunes and milk, then be so tired I'd have to go back to bed for a couple of hours. It was only when I started taking my BG an hour after eating it that I realised how high my levels were going and how bad they made me feel. Add a Vitamin D3 deficiency on top of the high BG (Vitamin D3 deficiency is also very common in Type 2), I was a zombie most of the time.

I'd definitely recommend testing your BG when you feel tired - but also having your Vitamin D3 levels tested.

Indy, do you still eat porridge, milk and prunes? Or did you have to find an alternative breakfast?
