Got my results back there I was 43 6 months ago now it's 40 I will be honest was looking for it to be lower as I have put a lot of hard work in it was the receptionist that gave me the results also mentioned my hemoglobin maybe a little low although she was unsure don't know the rest of the results as doc would need to read them any other advice to lower it again I've avoided bread pasta rice and make sure I do low carb thanks for any advice

So well done you, that's brilliant, a word of caution here, yes we all want our numbers to drop quickly but, yes there's always a but, they risk rising just as quickly as we become a little complacent, and it does happen, so sometimes its better to go a little slower and reap the benefits of the numbers staying down,
My advice just keep on doing what you are doing and they will drop, again well done you.

I wouldn't be disappointed! You are back down to non-diabetic levels and out of the pre-diabetic range. I would be celebrating.
However, if it turns out you are anaemic it may be that the Hba1c test is inappropriate for you and another type of test might be best next time, such as the Fructosamine test.

I have to call back tomorrow and hopefully the doc will have read the results for me to make sense as she wasn't very sure

A drop of 3 to 40 is amazing! Well done! There is nothing wrong with being disappointed, however if I were you, I would be really proud of myself and remember that this is well below the target for diabetics. Try not o be too disheartened - you are doing a FANTASTIC job...and it is showing in your results.

I knew yous lot would make me feel better ha ha my next visit is a year so hopefully I can better it cheers

Brilliant well done! On a cautious note, have you checked with your doctor about your hemoglobin count being low, was the nurse mistaken? I understand that a low blood count can interfere with a HBA1c result. I would check that your blood count was ok, rather than wait 12 months and discover it wasn't. I was told by the receptionist my C Peptide was really high, when I eventually got an appointment with the doctor and asked about it, it turned out I hadn't had a C Peptide test! It was a marker for inflamation with a name beginning with C!

No I will ask that tomorrow she really didn't seem that certain so hopefully get it all sorted tomorrow as my doc is off today will need to find out my cholesterol levels and so on as well

I'm sure it's fine and I didn't want to rain on your parade but as a victim of NHS a mistakes that have cost me and my family dearly it was playing on my mind! Lol

@bladerfc - It is my belief we all have a personal range we'd really struggle to get under. You are now under both the diabetes and pre-diabetes thresholds, so you may be reaching your range where your body can work quite happily. So, so many on here would be dancing, nekkid, in the streets to return results such as yours.

My numbers are in my signature, and am now more concerned to have stable numbers, which I would say, for me, would be +/-10%. I have absolutely no expectation of reducing further, and have been astonished by every reduction after the first after diagnosis. I knew the second test would be very different from the diagnostic one, but thereafter, I just want to stay under the thresholds by a few points.

If I can do that for the very long time, I'll be in a great place.

It's hard not to be competitive (and I'm an extreme competitor! Ahem), but each of us has different physical capabilities and/or damage, so we have to do the best we can, whilst retaining a decent quality of life. Maintaining a fantasmagorical HbA1c score is pretty pointless if it means your life is ruled by every mouthful of food, or your day to day living is significantly inhibited. Of course, we have all made changes to achieve what we have, but I hope you understand my sentiments?

No your perfectly correct she said my blood sugar was 5.3 at time of testing I'm assuming and hba1c was 40 which was normal then said she thinks hemoglobin might be low but not sure cause it can go up on down and would need to wait til doc read it and phone back tomorrow afternoon

Make sure you ask for full print outs so you can peruse the results at leisure, and look up anything that may be of concern and make sure you are getting the correct treatment. Don't let the doc fob you off with "it's fine" or "its not drastic" or "you need medication". You will also then have something to compare on your next lot of tests.

Wee update my hemoglobin is a little low need to go in for more blood tests tomorrow anyone any ideas what that would be for and will it have affected my hba1c results thanks

I imagine they want to check you out for anaemia and the possible variation of anaemia.
Anaemic patients can have distorted HbA1c results because the red blood cells have different life-spans from standard. If it turns out you are anaemic, you can ask for a fructosamine test instead of an HbA1c next time. It's just a blood test, nothing difficult!

Is anemia easy enough to treat had a look online don't really have any of the symptoms of note

I don't know anything about it, except there is more than one kind of anaemia. Iron-deficient is one, vitamin B12 and folate deficiency is another. I would wait and see what the results bring and you know more about it. I am sure they are all easily treatable.
