Anyone ever had any trouble with arranging appointments around work?
I can only get time off work for them if it is before 10am or after 4pm which is basically impossible.

Should I be allowed to attend them regardless or would I need to arrange around work? Due to it being a new job I only have a few days holiday and would rather not use them

why can't everyone get on........
in my experience it really depends on your employer

my best one let me have as much time as i needed -- the worst gave me no time off at all and i had to use holiday time.

I am not sure exactly where the law stands on this though -- hopefully others will be along with more / better info.

You have to be allowed time off for appointments, but you don't necessarily have to be paid for that time.

Ahhh, I have literally just posted about getting an insulin pump being too hard for me and ive been trying to get an appointment for almost a year but they always seem to be given to me on a work day. Very frustrating.

The issue with all of this stuff is that appointments are also within the NHS work day, so while we might complain about having to take time off, they don't necessarily want to work till 9pm at night to accommodate people who are working.

Now if it could be set up so that fewer appointments were needed for these things, then it might be less of an issue!

Some places do offer evening appointments though. My GP is a diabetic specialist who runs a weekly evening diabetic clinic. Trouble is he is not allowed to give me a pump. There would be no harm in a hospital running an evening clinic once a week or even month. Not everyone can get time off work because they might be self employed or might work away. The NHS are supposed to make sure we are treating Diabetes with care and the trouble is that a lot of people are missing appointments and become under poor control due to work commitments. Its resolved fairly simply by making more accesible appointments. I have to work till 8 or 9pm quite frequently even though its not in my contract or indeed my working hours. It benefits people so should be considered IMO!

I think it does depend on the area as well because I think there are some hospitals in the country that do evening appointments surely???
