    New and confused

The first thing to do is do NOT panic. I am one of the many thousands who have changed my routines and gone from really bad to normal. Change of diet and exercise are key. Just make the right food choices and make substitutes where possible. Myself I cut out: Potatoes, cakes, fancies...

    No guidance

Thanks for all this useful advice. My diagnosed reading in 2017 was 124 but by a total change in eating habits is now 39. That is no high GI foods and few low GI food so do not let anyone persuade you to eat lots things like potatoes, rice, white bread. Instead go for eggs, sausages, bacon...

Low Glycemic Index Foods - and the promo of carbs

It must depend to an extent on how effective the insulin is that is produced by the Pancreas and the only way to know is to test regularly. I find up to 30gm of Oats for breakfast is ok and keeps me full for about six hours whereas two slices of wholemeal bread and baked beans with 50gm carbs...

    Polish Hi Protein Bread

The demise of the Lidl Hi Protein bread has caused me to look elsewhere. At my local Polish shop they have Breaf (Chleb) with high protein content (wysoka zawartość białjka) with 6.3g carb per slice (Weglowodany). Basically high protein low carbs. Tastes good.

3 weeks in and I’m struggling with everything!

Be aware that some Soya milks still have carbs in them so read the label carefully as some are zero carb. I aim for no carbs at all at breakfast. Also i have found that a moderate amount of exercise between every meals burns more excess Glucose than no exercise at allor just a run at lunch...

    1 month in

My morning readings are usually beteeen 5.5 and 7 depending on how quickly my liver wakes up and dumps stored Glucose. By just before lunch though it is always just over 4. It seems to go up later in the day for no apparent reason until it settles at about 6.5 to 7 before bed. It does not seem...

Massive increase in blood sugar after breakfast

I think bacon, eggs, sausages, mushrooms etc might be a better start to the day. And ditch the Kiwi too and try Raspberries and Strawberries.

Big difference between hospital Mmol readings and Wavesense Jazz

That reading of 56 is pretty good in such a short time as it takes time for the body to adjust. I may be that this will come down again so you will be back in range. Peraonally i take little notice of odd high readings but try to note what foods cause the spikes and avoid them or substitute low...

Just having a grump - Anyone want to join?

You might find that the very high percentage dark chocolates bars are ok to eat. There is even one that is 99% Chocolate. However it is rather bitter but if you want an Easter choc treat might be worth a try. Certainly milk chocolate is a bad idea.

    Meter Readings

I think it best not to be too hung up over individual readings as these vary but I pay attention to averages up to 7, 14, 28, 60 and 90 days and these show much more consistency. Also you could download an app called mysugr and stick your readings in there to give you best guess on your HBAC1...

    Dropping blood glucose

All looks good to me. Glucose levels do vary up or down. The trend is a better guide and these figures seem brilliant to me and i would be delighted with 5s.
