I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes two weeks ago, this came as a huge shock. I was naive and didn't really know the key signs of diabetes, I thought I had a water infection to tell you the truth. I expected the doctor to prescribe me some antibiotics that would last two or three days at most... Instead I was told I would be on insulin for the rest of my life!
I'm still getting to terms with everything but I am trying to be positive. Tomorrow I will start carb counting and take charge of my insulin levels (this is a little scary).
I intend to continue climbing my favourite fells, spending my time outdoors and going to the gym. Only now I will prick my finger before, during and after!
