Eye problems - newly diagnosed T1

I also experienced that for the first weeks after diagnosis (I wear glasses all the time since I was a child), and confirm that it just goes away after our body gets used to lower/more stable BG and insulin, so don’t worry about it. I note that even after that, volatile BG is often accompanied...

    'Normal' HBAc1?

Happy reading my friend: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/what-is-hba1c.html I’ll echo what the team above said: Hba1c is a variable relative to one’s own health condition and cannot therefore be “normal”. We need to compare and contrast with the levels of people in comparable conditions: I would...

Keto Diet and no Fast Acting Insulin

I agree with Colin that the one thing to look out for while doing keto + being T1 is dka risk. However dka happens if you have both high ketone levels plus high bg levels. However being ketone-positive on a ketone testing strip does not on its own equate dka. It only tells you one thing: there...

Keto Diet and no Fast Acting Insulin

From you saying « first Hba1c » post diagnosis, I take that you were diagnosed recently with T1. Bear in mind that a honeymoon period might kick in, and thus that you might still be producing a tiny bit of insulin, which might be near enough for someone on a keto diet. I am by no means...

    Type 2 What to eat

Hi Colin, just chipping in to share my experience. I’m a type 1 currently following a keto diet after following a low carb diet. I would agree with the comments above. We all have that fear of food at some point, and what I would advise is find a diet which is known to be effective and...

    Question on Euglycemic DKA

    Thanks both, that’s really helpful!

    Question on Euglycemic DKA

Good morning team Quick question on a type of DKA: does anyone have any information, experience or reliable sources of information on Euglycemic DKA? (which is mentioned on the DKA page of diabetes.co.uk, but I can't seem to find any substantial info online on this) As a way of background, I...

Low Carbers: Do You Take Nutritional Supplements?

I’ve been keto for a bit, not taking any supplement, and never felt better in my life! I think when you go low carb/keto you mechanically have to widen your food options and end up eating a much more diverse range of food, which in turn means that you’re not necessarily likely to have nutrient...

    Carb counting

Take a look at the low carb diet as a starting point - it would help you lose weight, reduce the need for insulin and stabilise your bg. You’d need to build up some knowledge on what food has carbs/fats/proteins (book and app Carbs & Cals are pretty useful for that) and what balance of those...

Type 1 in ketosis and not losing the body fat

I agree with catapillar. I would also add that fat is much more calories-dense than carbs (for example) and so you'll need much less fat to reach your recommended daily caloric intake, so it's unfortunately easy to over-eat on fat!

Type 1 Been told something on holiday (upsetting) type 1 diabetic!

Diabetes as a disability could trigger rules against discrimination - however whether the local legal system would consider diabetes a disability is another question. It might be a though line of argument to run given that the restaurant did not actually refuse to serve you but requested that...

    Ketogenic diet?!

Hi Aileen Just chipping in to share my experience with you. I have T1D and currently following a keto diet (having tried moderate and low carbs before). Had the same questions as yours. It's not yet that a well-known diet so many dieticians and doctors are uncomfortable advising on it (because...
