    Challenges of low-carb

My struggle is to stop weight loss/ regain weight. I went low carb [not keto] to get my triglycerides from a very high 8.99. The GP said I needed to go on a statin straight away but I said I would try diet first, After 8 weeks my triglycerides are down to 2,3 {still too high according to my GP}...

Guidance please on latest Lipid Results

Can some one please offer guidance/ views regarding my latest lipid results please. They are sort of mixed. My triglycerides have been high for at least 6 years but in early January they were 8.99 [very high] and of course my GP said I must go on statins but I said I would reduce by diet. I...

    Breaded Fish Query

the peas are moderately high carbs as well - depending how many you are having you could be adding another 10 -15 carbs per meal. The fish is healthy but better without the breadcrumbs and from a low carb perspective the turkey was better still. When I first found out I was prediabetic I...

    Statins/ Vitamin K2/ Blood Calcium

The gist of the video was that calcified plague is less likely to rupture than softer un-calcified plaque because it is covered in a hard shell of calcium, I have done a QRISK3 and have a 15% chance due to having kidney issues - so I guess that justifies statins although I am still more...

    Statins/ Vitamin K2/ Blood Calcium

Would appreciate peoples views and expertise on Statins/ Vitamin K2 and calcium in the blood. I am pre-diabetic and as a consequence my GP is determined to get me on Statins. After a lot of pressure a few months ago I agreed but within days my readings had risen a fair bit – even for low carb...

Low Carb - cure or mere avoidance?

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping that a few months of low carbs would help my system to get more efficient at dealing with carbs so then when carbs are increased I could handle them but it's looking like carb reduction has to be a permanent action which I don't really have issues with apart...

Low Carb - cure or mere avoidance?

Thanks for the reply which explains things very well and makes a lot of sense to me. I have to say I am not really missing the carbs and dinners seem to be more tasty without potatoes. It seems low carb is a diet for life rather than a short/medium term intervention. The only problem is I cant...

Low Carb - cure or mere avoidance?

Thanks for the reply. What is the normal range - I thought the aim was to get it below 7.8 after 2 hours. Typically I test before a meal and it may be 5.5 and two hours later less than 7.8 [as low as 6.1 with a low carb meal]. I try to limit a maximum of 50g carbs at any meal and have a daily...

Low Carb - cure or mere avoidance?

Hi. I am prediabetic and about 5 weeks ago decided to go low carb [not keto] in order to try and improve my blood sugars and the results have been a bit mixed to be honest. At lunch I had a dinner I often have which is fairly high carb and my readings are much higher than normal [before going...

    Low Carb diet

Hi. Apologises in advance if this is a daft question but do I assume on a low fat diet there is no upper limit for fat intake. I am prediabetic and apart from fasting readings my 2 hour after eating readings are always below 7.8. I have started a lowish carb reduction from about 250g to 125g a...

    Blood sugar levels and monitors

I have recently gone low carb to tackle both my blood sugars [and already had a good effect] and to hopefully reduce my triglycerides [which are very high at 8.9]. The Doctor has now told me I need to go low fat rather than low carb but to keep my carbs below 125g a day and fats below 50g a day...

    atorvastatin & blood sugar

Thank you all for your replies. I have stopped taking the Atorvastatin and after two days my blood glucose was much improved - the only issue I have really ever had is the fasting readings and normally 2 hours after most meals [except pizza] I am well below 7.8. I have gone onto a low carb...

    atorvastatin & blood sugar

Hi. Thanks for the reply. The trig was 8.8 very high despite a good diet and exercise and only slightly overweight and Doctor said it is probably genetic [which begs the question will the statins work]. It wasn't a fasting blood test either but Doctor said it didn't matter and should still be...

    atorvastatin & blood sugar

Hi. I am pre-diabetic but because my Triglycerides are very high the Doctor put me onto Statins. I have only been on them 3 weeks but already my fasting readings have increased by nearly 20% and am now well into my 7's and readings after meals that were showing below 7 after 2 hours are now...

    strange readings

levels at bedtime in the low 5's and early morning always higher in the range 6-6.8 and that's after a 14-16 hour fast. Also like I said earlier levels start increasing after a 5 hour fast as well. Thanks every one for your replies - really appreciate them.
