Feeling ill after 22 hour fast

3.9 will make you feel lightheaded and weird, it’s a hypo. Might be worth having a shorter fast or splitting it into 2? Personally I find that when I go too long without eating I go beyond hunger and into a really nauseous and lightheaded (and either stroppy or stupid...) state where I can’t...

    Highs and Lows

Have you tried playing with your insulin:carb ratios? It can be different for different meals, my breakfast ratio is lower than my lunch ratio. And proteins can affect BG as well, maybe some of the hardcore low carb experts can help explain how to deal with that?

    Counselling

I've seen loads of counsellors, shrinks, etc but didn't find any of it useful. Maybe because I have bipolar... But I know plenty of people who've had great results from various therapies. Just bear in mind that there a lot of different types of "talking therapies" and that each individual has...

    baked beans sugar level

DAFNE advises that the actual beans don't raise your BG but the sugar in the sauce does, so you should calculate dose based on the "of which sugars" bit of the carb amount. Personally that doesn't work for me at all and even stuff with no carbs raises my BG. I guess everyone's different... ;)

    walking blood sugar

Exercising with a high BG will raise your BG. Muscles need glucose, so your liver releases it. But if you haven't got the insulin to get the glucose into the muscles, it's got nowhere to go and just hangs about in your blood.

    Basal test

Lantus is supposedly a 24 hour insulin (worked out as about 12 hours for me...) and Tresiba should last about 36 hours. Did you just do a straight swap? You probably need a lower dose of Tresiba than you had with Lantus. I was having hypos when I switched but it's a lot better now that I do...

    wierd day

Yup. I calculate my carbs and insulin and my BG just does whatever the hell it wants. Grrrrr.

why am I so ashamed/embarrassed to tell/show people I'm diabetic?

I genuinely don't understand why anyone feels like they have to hide their diabetes. When I was diagnosed (age 8) my stepmother came to school and explained it to the class, everyone always knew I was diabetic. I've always injected and tested my BG in public and tbh it's useful for people to...

DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE STOMACH ISSUES?

You don't need to ask permission to change your injection site ;) Just do it. You should be rotating sites anyway, don't do two in a row in the same place. And it's a large area of the thighs and tummy that you can inject into, so spacing them out can help. Insulin dosage wouldn't have anything...

    NHS Dietitian Contradicting Himself

Nurses do have registration to protect, along with a code of professional ethics and a requirement to prove continuing professional development. Personally I've found my DSNs over the years have been much more helpful and knowledgable than my diabetes consultants. As for dieticians, just don't...

    Help I can’t lose weight

You still need insulin if you don't eat carbs. In fact you still need insulin if you don't eat anything (ref. my food poisoning causing ketoacidosis before I knew that...). You'll just need less of it.

    High bg

Increasing your basal dose can take a few days to show any impact, especially with Tresiba. Don't increase it every day or you might end up having a ton of hypos. There's lots of reasons you might be high, have you got a cold or any kind of infection? Are you very stressed? Also it might be...

Could not feel my hypo yesterday at all, hypo unawareness?

That just happens sometimes. I tend to get a bit daft if I go below 5, but shortly after I discovered Candy Crush (evil time-vampire...) I was playing it on the bus, and felt nothing til I got off the bus and felt a bit shaky. Tested and my BG was 1.9. I had no idea my meter could measure that...

Better safe than potentially sorry ;)

DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE STOMACH ISSUES?

Just out of curiosity, do you eat tofu? I love the stuff and was trying to eat less meat so I started eating more tofu. Turns out I really shouldn't as it totally messed up my digestion. Horrible stomach pains, extreme bloating and having to go to the toilet 6 times a day. Fun. Since stopping...
