    Low Carb Advice Please

If you are using humalog or other ultra-rapid insulin, you may find it more difficult to lose weight than if you are using regular insulin, as rapid was made for, and therefore necessitates, a high glycemic index (GI) diet. With regular insulin, you can eat plenty meat and salads without...

    Low carb and Statins

Statins have side effects and there are numerous articles warning about them. Personally, I would never take a statin willy-nilly. I would only consider taking them if a serious health-threatening condition truly necessitated them. I'll just leave this here...

Twitter threads on why most GP's won't suggest low carb

My guess it is the BigPharma influence over orgs like the ADA, and the like. Just look at their top donors. A similar analogy would be: It's like an epi-pen manufacturer donating to an org that promotes to people with peanut allergies to eat more peanuts, and just cover it with more epi-pens...

A few asking for low carb food lists....

Depends on what type of insulin you are using. IF you are using humalog then you might be able to get away with certain whole grain breads, though limited quantity. Ezekiel bread is quite low glycemic, but check the carbs. Might be too slow for humalog. You'll have to figure that one out...

A few asking for low carb food lists....

Cornflour/starch? no no. Try gums like guar (better for sauces) or xanthan (better for baking) Oatmeal has a lot of carbs by weight. For a "list" (actually a database) of 1000+ core foods (basic foods, not so much "products", but does have common condiments and such) combined with...

    Spaghetti

I am trying to get hold of some shirataki noodles to try out so my son can have more noodles -- maybe even mix with pasta to get the right amount of carbs (which I count)... hard to find around my area. However, even with "R" insulin, we dont experience any glycemic issues with al dente...

    cocoa powder

Unsweetened cocoa powder should have a macronutrient profile as such: per 100g wt: cal, carb, fiber, fat, protein, GI 305, 58.0, 33.3, 14.0, 20.0, 20 That is from US label reporting method... so net-carb is 58-33=25 (per 100g) the high amount of fiber gives it a...

    Carb content of Almonds

is anyone paying attention to protein in nuts? If eating low-carb protein needs to be accounted for. Almonds have a significant amount of protein (about the same as a steak), other nuts may be higher in fat. Something to consider. (per 100g)------ netCarb - fat - protein...

    Good website to track carbs?

Not exactly a "website" but an app I have been using with great results. We do low-carb, low-GI here, and I have found no other app more accommodating. You do need a full version of Excel, but no real need for Excel skills. Just choose the foods, input weights of the foods in the meal... read...

Experts Say High Cholesterol Does Not Cause Heart Disease

I've seen several studies references here and there about this. Also, from several doctors that high-carb and fast-carb diets have a stronger correlation. Also mentioned was the high insulin response (even in non diabetics) to these high/fast carbs was also a contributing factor to...

    Carb content of Almonds

Well, ok then.... But to clarify, my focus isnt on GL or individual GI. Actually I never mentioned GL. GL is useless for type-1, and merely a quick "rule of thumb" that may work for some type-2s. My focus is on accurately counting carbs and meal-GI -- not the same GL. Meal-GI is a much more...
