Type 2 Low Carb - What does the body do with calories?

Today I had a bag of pork scratchings. I'm a bit overweight, and as I was tucking in reading the nutritional information I was dismayed to discover the horrifying number of calories each bag contains... though admittedly not dismayed enough to stop eating them. I've splashed out for a month's...

Thank you JTL. It seems your experience has saved me having to go around the same circuit! Now, where's that straw gone...

    Yogurt

I'm recently diagnosed Type 2 and am currently sitting here eating a lovely bowl of full fat Greek yoghurt with pecan nuts crushed up in it. I'm really enjoying zero carb, high-fat food, but after a lifetime of being told that fat is bad, I'm really struggling to get my head round this. Can I...

Type 2 How to tell if I'm no longer diabetic?

I'm sorry to say DCUK that Arnie got it right, in my case at least... I've spent far too long sat on my backside eating junk! I'm not particularly proud to be perpetuating that image of someone diabetic, but I'm afraid that in my case it's true. I believe that term 'in remission' is a good way...

Type 2 How to tell if I'm no longer diabetic?

I've almost completely cut out carbohydrates. That's made a huge difference, and I've already lost 1st. Exercise is tough as we've been in tier 3 for months, but I've definitely noticed that walking makes a huge difference. Might be time to get a bike (not an electric one!)

Type 2 How to tell if I'm no longer diabetic?

Thanks folks, I feared as much. Either way though, this no-carb diet feels to be doing me a lot of good. My HbA1c was 50 when I had it tested.

Type 2 How to tell if I'm no longer diabetic?

I was diagnosed as type 2 a little while ago, and have been taking my BGL to keep an eye on what is happening. Eating a low carb diet (almost carb-free) my BGL is between 5.7 and 7.4 almost all the time, averaging out at 6.3. Two hours after eating and my BGL is normally about 1.0 higher than...

    Diabetic BGL vs non-Diabetic

So can that number be a meaningful measure of my diabetes Mark?

    Diabetic BGL vs non-Diabetic

When I wake up, my blood glucose level is the highest of the day. Does anyone have any idea what's going on there? Is it my body burning fat?

    Diabetic BGL vs non-Diabetic

Thanks VashtiB, that's a really informative article. My gf is never going to let me (or anyone else) near her with any kind of pointy needly type of thing. I know not to push it when she pulls that face I saw when suggesting it.

    Diabetic BGL vs non-Diabetic

To be honest, the bun and the fries are c**p anyway... come to think of it, so is the patty! Maybe it's the gherkin that's addictive?!?!?

    Diabetic BGL vs non-Diabetic

Thankyou. That's makes for helpful, though slightly depressing reading. Looks like Big Macs are off the menu!

    Diabetic BGL vs non-Diabetic

Hello. I've been diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic, and I got hold of a BGL finger prick test kit three days ago. Please can someone explain how my type 2 BG levels will likely differ from a non-diabetic. Is it that mine will rocket after a doughnut and not come down for ages, or do 'normal'...

    Confused about Hypos

Argh! In order to avoid the false hypos, which I've been getting regular as clockwork 3hrs after eating, I've been making sure to eat before they hit - and doing this for years without knowing such a thing as a false hypo exists. It seems I've probably made myself type 2 unwittingly by eating...

    Confused about Hypos

Thanks again. I've bought a blood glucose meter and strips, so will see what's happening when I feel rough. I've had three days with very few carbs and feel really good on it - I fear that my terrible diet was the vast majority of the problem... maybe the hypos were just those pseudo-hypos.
