Funny the things that upset you!

So sad Shell1 :( . My little girl asked me if she was going to die from diabetes. I managed to reassure her, not easy to do if you feel like bursting out crying! She also asked, a week or so after diagnosis (with a hopeful smile on her face) 'when can we stop with the injections, mummy?' :(...

Did any of you type 1s have a virus before you got diabetes?

Re: Did any of you type 1s have a virus before you got diabe Yes, My daughter had a sore throat and felt tired, one week later she was admitted with bad DKA - that was when she was diagnosed. Docs said it often seems to happen right after an infection/virus.

    Keytones in the morning

We're having exactly the same. Daughter in honeymoon period, first time she has been ill. She has mild ketones (under 0.8) only during night/before breakfast. They always go after her breakfast. I have also been told these are 'starvation' ketones. Illness makes your body work hard and you need...

Have you had trouble getting test strips?

No problems so far. My daughter's prescription is for a very generous 400 glucose test strips (also 40 ketone test strips). It started with 200, but I asked for more, thinking they would give me 300 or so. They doubled it. Great for me as it means I don't have to travel to the surgery every 3-4...

please support n help me out

Hi Noosrat, Well done for bringing your levels down this week. I think it really is a case of watching what certain foods do with your levels. I don't have diabetes, but my little girl has. If she is hungry in between meals and if her sugars are high (2 hours after meal) I will give her...

My son is 11 , newly diagnosed type 1.Just got home

Hi Jodie, Poor you. Please don't feel guilty. I know I felt SOOO guilty when my daughter was diagnosed in December, I know it wasn't my fault now, but I felt awful back then. I think most parents will feel this horrible guilt, however undeserved. You must be shattered after the diagnosis, the...

please support n help me out

Hi, Are you type 1 or 2? Sorry you feel so down :( . Do you not have a diabetes team you can contact by phone? I understand you do not want to see your doctor, but there must be someone you can phone for advice on your insulin/carbs etc? Re. food...have you tried slow release/(low glycemic...

    MAD READINGS!!!!! TECH SUPPORT NEEDDED!

Were your hands still slightly damp perhaps? Perhaps this could have diluted your sample(s). Maybe one finger was dry, while the other one was slightly damp? Other things that can throw readings are soap residue, moisturiser etc - but you say your hands were product free. Apparently if you...

    Use for old blood monitors

http://www.a2hw.org.uk/donatingequipment.html http://www.dreamtrust.org/help.html Seems there are a few organisations who apparently are happy to accept donations of used meters (and unopened test strips)

    Home from hospital tomorrow......

You will be fine, honestly! We spent a week in the hospital with our 8-year-old daughter, and we too were scared when we went home. My husband said it reminded him a little of bringing our first baby home from the hospital :) You have all the experts around you, telling you what to do...then...

    Newly diagnosed- blurry eyes

Hi, Try not to worry (hard to do, I know!). My 8-year old developed blurry vision for a little while, very shortly after diagnosis. This scared me to death, but apparently quite common due to the high blood sugars she would have had for a long time. It soon settled down. x

    History lessons

History is indeed amazing. I would never, ever consider it boring (try telling my teenage son this though!) Thanks for posting this.

Some great suggestions there, Finzi - I'm getting hungry just reading about them!
