I have the same problem. Laser treatment was used on my eyes but the most important thing to remember as already commented is keep tight control of your diabetes & above all don't worry !

Ask your GP for Metformin SR. (slow release).

Well done from me too BUT don't expect too much by complaining about your GP. Doctors will & do close ranks all the time. I would be inclined to look for another GP & move without any black marks on you patient file.

I had no problems at all with Metformin, only Statins, evil drugs with horrendous muscle pain.

Only this week I had the same problem. Pharmacist said take to GP surgery, they should send with their clinical waste.GP surgery refused. took it to the local walk in center, (in the same building) no problem at all. Local council offer too many hoops to jump through.

Statins caused lots of muscle pain for me, Metformin is OK for me.
