I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes the age of 6. After being unwell from birth, the Consultant who was looking after me accused my Mother of being over anxious. When I was diagnosed 1 nearly died, I was in a coma and was in hospital for months, this was in 1967. Luckily for the consultant who looked after me before being diagnosed had emigrated to Canada. There is a lesson to be learned here Mother knows best.
I have had excellent care in the 48 years I have had Type 1 Diabetes with my GP and Consultants especially Dr John Peters at the University Hospital of Wales. Dr Peters looked after me when I was pregnant with my 3 perfectly healthy sons. I had to go antenatal clinic every Tuesday at 10am, where I saw the Obstetrician and diabetic Consultant. Strict control is required when pregnant it not only affects you but your baby if your control is not spot on. I work full time and have worked in the company for nearly 20 years. Again my employers look after me, and can tell if my sugar is a bit to low.
Type 1 Diabetes is a condition not an illness which you can live with.Interact
