Started insulin, gained weight. Help please.

I switched to Tresiba and this has given me a stable blood sugar in the morning. I take 36units at 9pm, this gets me through the next day with minimal food. I put on 20 kg when starting insulin 81-101kg. I’m aiming for 90kg and I am at 96.5 after 3 months. Don’t eat much until late afternoon...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Today it was 10, my alarm went off at 3.30 with a 4.9 reading. I tried to explain to my wife that the reading was ok but she panicked and made me a jam croissant and cup of tea. My usual readings are between 5 & 7 since switching to Tresiba. I take 36 units at 9pm. I can then get through the day...

Anyone else get wildly inaccurate Dexcom readings?

Update, I asked for a switch to Tresiba and this has worked out better for me. I take 34 units at night and this gives me a stable bs overnight and in the morning as long as I don’t eat anything! This could help me cut down on food and lose a bit of weight.

Started insulin, gained weight. Help please.

At 81 kg I was in starvation mode but my stats said I was just right. I feel better at 100kg but I am definitely plumper and don’t like the look or the fact my clothes don’t fit. I have definitely been eating more so I am fairly sure most of my weight gain is because of that. Since starting...

    Freestyle 2 sensors

For me I had a problem every month, either constantly losing the signal and having to scan the sensor or just spurious readings. The reader they supplied works ok but the software is worse than the app. I would switch back to the app but if I have the same issues they will not replace the sensor...

    Insulin Adjustments

There is a formula you can use on a Canadian School’s health website https://apps.apple.com/app/id1521364754 Can’t say it worked for me though. I recently switched to Treseba long acting insulin, I take 34 units at night. This gives me a stable bs right through until mid day the following day...

    Freestyle 2 sensors

Don’t update your iPhone to iOS 17 switch off auto system updates. iOS 17 is not fully compatible wait until Abbott say all is ok. If you have updated you will need a Freestyle reader. Abbott supplied one free to me with a new sensor as the reader will not work if you have scanned the sensor...

Started insulin, gained weight. Help please.

I started using insulin about a year ago. I was 81kg and I am now 100kg. I am 6ft 2 so don’t look overweight but my cloths no longer fit and my scale keeps warning me I am obese! I was according to my family far to thin at 81 kg, I was not eating to maintain a reasonable blood sugar, my meds did...

Anyone else get wildly inaccurate Dexcom readings?

I use FS2 my readings when compared to a finger prick test are generally accurate whilst I am stable but if I am dropping down they can be as much as 2 points out. That is if my FS2 reading is 4.5 my finger prick reading could be as low as 2.5. This becomes apparent when I start getting hypo...

    Managing Freestyle Libre when travelling

Firstly I’ve been abroad once since starting my FSL2 I wasn’t asked for proof that I am diabetic. The airport sensor did not trigger, however I did say I was wearing one and was just nodded through. I obtained a standard letter from my diabetic nurse stating I was diabetic and to allow diabetic...

From 21.5 to 3.3 in two and a half hours?

If I just were to take my usual dose of Lanus (16 units) in the morning it wouldn’t affect me until mid afternoon. If I hadn’t eaten I would drop from 9-10 to <3 by about 2pm. I also take 10 units Lantus about 9pm. If I top up too much with bolus I can get a low alarm about 4am. I find my levels...

Started insulin, gained weight. Help please.

Well here I am Carol, I’m now on insulin and my weight has rocketed from 81k to 98.5. I have decided to go back to low carbs and will moderate my insulin use accordingly hopefully I will manage some weight loss with diet and exercise. It’s a bit like walking a tightrope, trying to keep my BG low...

    Pre diabetic

It’s a very frightening and frustrating time for you as information and advice can be hard to obtain and harder to understand. I’ve found this forum very informative. I would suggest you are very careful about your diet and avoid carbs when possible. Stay away from ultra processed food, try...
