Shoulder pains causes by bad diabetic control

Hi TBren Yep, when I was first diagnosed, I had the frozen shoulder symptoms and when diagnosed had high sugars and ketones. The pain, apparently, comes from your body looking for glucose in your muscles when it can't find it elsewhere.

    Plateau

Hi SarahB Have to say, you're definitely not alone. I'm in the same boat... only my plateau has lasted the last 5 months, more or less - and that's with me trying all sorts of things, and exercising regularly. In the year since I was first diagnosed I went from 207 lbs to 157 lbs pretty quickly...

    Leeks

Yeah, I was wondering about this the other day... when calculating 100g leeks online and it came back as 12.6g ... Just checked my Gem Calorie counter book and it says: Leeks, trimmed, chopped and boiled (100g): 21cal, 1.2g protein, 2.6g carb, 0,7g fat and 1.7g fibre. Cheers.

    DIABETIC FOODS

Agree with the others... although I know what you seem to be getting at viz diabetic foods, truth is, at the end of the day it comes down to us, ourselves and the choices we make about what we eat... you have to learn to pay attention to the things that matter (for anyone but especially for...

    Just got in from DESMOND

Hi MrsGI So, how was the DESMOND for you both? Did you get some helpful ideas? Pizza and 2 bananas sounds a bit mad! Suspect my BGs would be flying on those. I often fall asleep if my sugars go high but haven't 'not noticed' people thus far. 10 kilos sounds like a massive...

    Recipe Cards

Thanks Roy. I'm quite enjoying making them - helps me to see how far I've come and how my meals have really changed. :D I think the best thing is that I'm definitely gaining a lot more confidence about trying out different things and not being so scared of having a little bit of what I fancy...

    100g of carbs.

Hi Celast I usually have around 130 to 150g a day (so not quite as strict as your 100g) but the trick is to eat things that are low carb, like fish, eggs, etc. I have started posting photos of my meals on twitter with carb counts on them - so take a look and you might get some ideas. At the...

    Recipe Cards

I've been diagnosed for around 10 months now with Type 2 and this forum has really helped me get on top of things (thanks all on the forum). I decided to start making photo recipe cards for the meals I like. I'm sharing these on Twitter if folks want ideas for basic meals. Each recipe contains...

how high and how low have you been?

Hi Candyman The highest I've been is 27 mmol/L - a week after I was diagnosed (16 mmol/L on diagnosis). The highest I usually go without feeling any symptoms is around 14 to 16 mmol/L - at that level I feel tired and usually fall asleep for 10-15 minutes. The lowest I've been is 2.6 mmol/L -...

Can anyone recommend books on diabetes?

Yes Mrs GI That book literally saved my sanity. I'm still in my first year of diabetes (diagnosed last May). I'm now controlled by diet and exercise only but when I was first diagnosed, I was immediately put on insulin 2 x a day, plus Metformin, and told to test my BG levels 5 x a day. After 2...

Can anyone recommend books on diabetes?

I read the one you ordered on Amazon Type 2 Diabetes - The First Year by Gretchen Becker. Bought it first week I was diagnosed. It was a godsend! It's a bit technical in places, so best to treat it as a dip in and out rather than a read through - although both ways work. I'd recommend this book...

    choosing a meter

I was given a Gluco RX Nexus when I was first diagnosed 6 months ago and found it pretty accurate and in line with my HbA1c. Then, when my results got better, darned if they didn't take my strips off prescription. :-( So, based on recommendations on the forum, I bought the SD Code Free -...
