    Type 1 - couch to 5k

I tend to have a banana or something about an hour before I run and that usually keeps me going. Monitor your sugars afterwards as you may get a post-exercise dip; I also need to reduce my next bus injection as a result As others have said, it’s a bit of trial and error - even after 30+ years...

12 years into type 1, I finally got stage 1 of diabetic retinopathy in my recent eye screening. I don't know how to feel and I'm scared.

A lot of T1s will have background retinopathy - it’s very common! My consultant reassured me by saying that it basically means that they can tell your diabetic by looking at the backs of your eyes. It’s not affecting your sight and isn’t anything to be hugely worried about. Just keep your...

    Worried about travelling

I’ve travelled a lot since being diabetic - honestly never had any major issues! I always mention when going through security that I have needles in my bag (or, more recently, that I am wearing a pump). If you’re using a pump, you can do through the normal gate thing by the bay scanners but be...

Omnipod Dash v Minimed 780 pump

I can’t comment on the OmniPod Dadh but I’m currently using the Medtronic 780. It’s been great, so far! Few little teething issues but largely, I feel, as I was new to pump therapy. It’s quite bulky so finding the best place to “hide” it has been a bit of trial and error. Everything is pretty...

    Feet

Ah nightmare! I have to be honest, eye screening here is fab - I get two check-ups a year (started in pregnancy seven years ago when I developed background retinopathy and has continued since) and they still check for glaucoma etc.

Have tried Flexitol - it gives very short-term relief but, overall, the dryness is getting worse

    Night-time highs

Last month, I started on the Medtronic 780. It’s working really well during the day - sugars are almost always in range. At night time, though, I am having a real nightmare! My sugars are rising and despite numerous correction doses, they just don’t seem to come down - if anything, they continue...

    2 CGM’s & 2 very different readings!

Not sure how long you’ve been using the new pump and sensors but I found mine took a good few days to “settle”. I’m two weeks in now and it’s pretty close to what the finger prick is saying (unless they are falling or rising rapidly in which case there is a bit of a lag)

    New to the pump

Thanks - sugars seem quite stable before and after but I could be knocking it (so easy to do!). I’ll see what happens over the next few days and go from there. Thanks again :)

Insulin seems to not be doing anything

I’d reach out to your local diabetes team - sure they’d have some things you could try. Are you eating when you inject - or is it just a correction dose? Do you know what your levels have been doing before the reading of 12? If you have a CGM, for example, can you see that they’ve been...

Got some of that at home. It gives very temporary relief but isn’t doing enough to keep the dryness - and cracking - at bay

Thanks. Think that’s what I’m going to do. Been waiting almost six months already and I’ve been told there is still quite a lot of people ahead of me

    New to the pump

I’ve just started (a couple of weeks ago) on the Medtronic 780. First time using a pump, so it’s fair to say it’s a bit of a learning curve! All going well so far BUT… my sensor is repeatedly updating, which means it’s unusable for up to three hours at a time. Happens after I’ve been wearing it...
