I'm oa bit off-topic here but posts like these show me how ilmportant it is to try diet first and not jump right onto metformin like our gp surgery wants patients to do. Not going to happen!
Oh wow, thanks LL!!! I had no idea how to do all this - cooking isnt my thing at all (did you notice? lol) but I'm having to learn a lot since he got ill. I'll buy in all the gubbins and play at mixing up dressings. TY!
Everything is a minefield isn't it? Trying to keep the husband going with salads and I find on Sainsburys that salad dressings are full of carbs and sugar. What do you all use? Because we can't stomach nekkid lettuce!
I'm lazy :) I decided the amount of carbs in a tiny wee bit of dressing stuck to a bit of chicken wasn't worth the hassle of finding a LC version. Would be different if it was a whole loaf or something like that.
No, I got thebook maybe 16 years ago now, it's this one:

I think Banting was the pioneer in LC yes. But I just liked the recipes in the Bernstein book and how he uses butter and cream in his cooking. But the newest stuff just doesnt work for us somehow, like the Fast 800 etc. Too many new faddy strange foods for an old lady like me - the last one of...
Sorry I wasn't more specific - yes I meant Bernstein's actual diet. I have his book but I've recently moved house twice in 3 years and cannot find it  We do eat LC and it does work but Bernstein had more dramatic effects somehow. Plus the food is very nice!
Does anybody still follow this diet? Husband had huge success when first diagnosed and on this, I keep thinking to go back to it now. But that was nearly 18 years ago - although I suppose it wouldn't be that different as it very low carb. What are your thoughts on it?
This is going to sound really stupid - but how do you cook chicken like that? I've never done chicken in a stew, only roast. Hubby needs to cut back down again as his readings are creeping up and I'm on a mission here :p
