Type 1 and a ketogenic diet

Hi all Hope everyone is well and in range. I've posted on keto diets before so forgive me if this seems repetitive. So, my DSN is adamant that I should not go on a ketogenic diet and that I must eat (a small amount) of carbs with at least two meals a day. Should we be worried that the...

Type 1 diabetes and coeliac symptoms

What time do you finish eating your evening meal and what sort of stuff are you meeting? I'm sure you've already thought all this through, but just in case :-)

    Type 1: A good HbA1C without hypos?

I totally agree. I am planning to have the occasional treat - i.e. I have a friends wedding next month and will probably drink beer. But I know it will need careful management and there will be consequences. To start with it will mean an alarm set for six hours after I finish eating /...

    Type 1: A good HbA1C without hypos?

I totally agree with this although it took me a while to accept. I love the theory of 'we type 1s can eat what we want when we want' but - for me at least - the reality is different. I'm a few weeks into a low carb diet and am pretty much in range all the time. As a result I have much more...

Is ketosis safe for a type 1

This is really helpful - thank you all very much. I feel much more reassured now. The information online is quite confusing (I'm not the brightest) but you guys have explained it really clearly. @Dillinger- thanks for the advice on basal testing. I have tried it a couple of times and it does...

Is ketosis safe for a type 1

Hi all Happy New Year! Hope everyone's well. I was diagnosed in Feb 2016 and - as is so often the case - have put on a bit of weight since diagnosis. I'm still just about a healthy weight but decided to try and bring it down during 2017. As such, I've started low carbing (I did this for...

    Lows

I am not on Lantus (Levimir) but it could be that you need less basal in the evenings and overnight (although I think that would be unusual - but we're all different). Worth a chat with your care team?

    Type 1: Low reading

I am quite hypo prone. If I have a high carb meal (over 70g) I do half my bolus before eating and half after and it REALLY helps. So if you're worried about going low that might be a thought - but check with your nurse first :-)

    Type 1: Splitting bolus

Really grateful for everyone's advice - thank you!

    Type 1: Splitting bolus

Hi all Quick question for those on (or previously) on MDI. I've seen some very helpful comments about splitting bolus dose when eating a fairly fatty meal. I can totally see the need to do this as I've had a few occasions where I hypo-ed and then went very high a few hours later. However...

    T1 and high protein diet

Thank you all so much for your helpful feedback. Luckily I do have a free style libre so I'm sure that will be a big help. I am not keen on the LCHF diet and deliberately want to go high protein as would like to build a bit of muscle on my arms - so will be hitting the weights a bit as well...

    T1 and high protein diet

Hi all Hope everyone is well and in range! I am thinking about switching to a high protein / low carb diet - not because of anything to do with my blood sugars - I'm just keen to shed a few pounds and tone up a bit. I understand that some people have to bolus for protein if they have a carb...

Carb ratio and insulin needs sharp incline

Hello. I was diagnosed just a couple of months before you. My insulin sensitivity still changes quite a lot and apparently this is fairly common in the first year or so after diagnosis. Gareth x
