I've read that loads of times. Don't understand though why I eat 230g carbs per day on average and my cholesterol has gone down and is now 2.5mmol (used to be 3.2mmol). Can someone please explain how this works?
I did NOT "advice" the Op to eat sugar at any point. I did not intend for him to interpret my post in the way that he did. I obviously should have phrased it differently. My mistake was assuming that no one with diabetes would be stupid enough to go and eat such sugary junk food.
I also notice...
I NEVER said that the OP SHOULD eat sugar at any point. I was NOT advising him at all. I don't advise people with type 2 diabetes on what to eat as I do not have type 2.
I would also like to point out that I DON'T agree with the information that I quoted and that I DON'T follow it myself.
My...
The hormones that you produce when you are stressed raise blood glucose and can also cause insulin resistance which may be why they don't come down after you have taken insulin. I have exactly the same problem when I am stressed.
I never said that DavideB should eat sugar. I was simply answering his question.
Grazer, you clearly don't know much if anything about insulin or type 1 diabetes. Just because I am type 1 and therefore on insulin doesn't mean I can eat what I like. I avoid sugar too and high gi foods. They...
Yes, you must always take insulin with your meals if the contain carbohydrate. Treat your hypo first, wait for your blood sugar to come up and then take your insulin and have your meal . NEVER stop taking your insulin.
Make sure your injection site is clean before you inject. Wipe it with a pre-injection alcohol swab. Make sure you are not reusing the needles either. If this doesn't help then you may be allergic to Lantus and will need to speak to your doctor about it as you may need to take a different basal...
I am type 1 but wanted to reply.
The ketones in your urine may be starvation ketones, in which case you are right and you need more carbs, but they may also be insulin deficient ketones which are caused by the lack of insulin in your body and high blood sugar. These are far more dangerous. You...
David I have copied and pasted this from DiabetesUK:
Myth: People with diabetes cannot have sugar
Having diabetes does not mean you have to have a sugar-free diet. People with diabetes should follow a healthy balanced diet – that is low in fat, salt and sugar. You should still be able to enjoy a...
Sensitivity to insulin often varies by time of day. I have a different insulin to carbohydrate ratio for each meal. It could just be that you have become more sensitive to insulin at lunchtime and therefore need to take less.Try using a different insulin to carbohydrate ratio eg if you normally...
Do you know what they are testing for? I was told to fast for my twice yearly blood tests(as they included lipids). When I explained the problem I had with fasting to my GP she said that it wasn't necessary to fast as long as I let them know before the blood test so that they could tell the lab...
Don't try the SoloStar. I was on them when I was diagnosed and they gave me nothing but trouble. There are several other pen options for Lantus. There's also the option of using a syringe.
