    What would happen

It is a well known fact that people with AND without diabetes should not eat lots of sugary food. I did not see the need to point that out to anyone.

    What would happen

I did NOT "advice" the Op to eat sugar at any point. I did not intend for him to interpret my post in the way that he did. I obviously should have phrased it differently. My mistake was assuming that no one with diabetes would be stupid enough to go and eat such sugary junk food. I also notice...

    What would happen

I NEVER said that the OP SHOULD eat sugar at any point. I was NOT advising him at all. I don't advise people with type 2 diabetes on what to eat as I do not have type 2. I would also like to point out that I DON'T agree with the information that I quoted and that I DON'T follow it myself. My...

    Stress at work

The hormones that you produce when you are stressed raise blood glucose and can also cause insulin resistance which may be why they don't come down after you have taken insulin. I have exactly the same problem when I am stressed.

    What would happen

I never said that DavideB should eat sugar. I was simply answering his question. Grazer, you clearly don't know much if anything about insulin or type 1 diabetes. Just because I am type 1 and therefore on insulin doesn't mean I can eat what I like. I avoid sugar too and high gi foods. They...

rash or itching when using lantus glargine

Make sure your injection site is clean before you inject. Wipe it with a pre-injection alcohol swab. Make sure you are not reusing the needles either. If this doesn't help then you may be allergic to Lantus and will need to speak to your doctor about it as you may need to take a different basal...

    I really need help!

I am type 1 but wanted to reply. The ketones in your urine may be starvation ketones, in which case you are right and you need more carbs, but they may also be insulin deficient ketones which are caused by the lack of insulin in your body and high blood sugar. These are far more dangerous. You...

    What would happen

David I have copied and pasted this from DiabetesUK: Myth: People with diabetes cannot have sugar Having diabetes does not mean you have to have a sugar-free diet. People with diabetes should follow a healthy balanced diet – that is low in fat, salt and sugar. You should still be able to enjoy a...

    Type1 unusual hypos

Sensitivity to insulin often varies by time of day. I have a different insulin to carbohydrate ratio for each meal. It could just be that you have become more sensitive to insulin at lunchtime and therefore need to take less.Try using a different insulin to carbohydrate ratio eg if you normally...

    To eat or not ?

Do you know what they are testing for? I was told to fast for my twice yearly blood tests(as they included lipids). When I explained the problem I had with fasting to my GP she said that it wasn't necessary to fast as long as I let them know before the blood test so that they could tell the lab...

    Opticet and lantus

Don't try the SoloStar. I was on them when I was diagnosed and they gave me nothing but trouble. There are several other pen options for Lantus. There's also the option of using a syringe.

Things we cannot use or take as diabetics

I having been using an electric duvet for about three years. When I was diagnosed with type 1 18 months ago I noticed it said "not suitable for diabetics". Same for my hot water bottle and period pain heat pads. Called DiabetesUK careline about the duvet and they said it was fine. Spoke to my...

Nova rapid 3 or 4 times

Yes, you should take NovoRapid for this. You take it whenever you eat a significant amount of carbohydrate. To determine how much you should take you should use your insulin to carbohydrate ratio. For example if you normally take one unit for every 10g carbs and your meal is 30g carbs then you...

    Intermediate-Insulin

Basal insulin like Lantus,NPH, Levemir etc MUST be taken everyday regardless of your blood sugar. It is the only thing keeping you alive if you have type 1.

    Alternative Site Testing

I mainly use AST. I use the Accu-Chek MultiClix but I wouldn't recommend it. It has been discontinued and mine has broken twice. I think the best pricker for AST is the Abbott Freestyle one. AST are harder to make bleed and the Abbott one does it well without being too painful. It will take most...
