Would you recommend Sitagliptin? so as to control the spikes and hypos or just continue with diet? I can't do full keto as i cannot digest the fibrous meats such as steaks and i don't want to eat bacon and sausages as they tend to be highly processed the same holds true for lunch meats.
It was my endo that prescribed them for me. And I already know about the acidosis side effects. They wanted me to go on ozempic and then acterbose and blood pressure meds but those all have adverse side affects and my hypos are not really improving much not sure why as i've changed my diet and...
If you have hypoglycaemia then what ever you do do not let your blood sugar go below 3.3 as 3.3 is the beginning of a hypo and you should eat something to increase your blood sugar back up to between 4 or 5 mmol
Update:
Did the mixed meal test today, there was nothing mixed about it as it was all carbs. The meal consisted of cornflakes, banana cake, crackers, white bread. appointment time was 9am where they drew my first set of baseline bloods as a base point then every half hour there after. My meal...
Fruit is funny as i cannot eat most of them as they will spike me. The only things that i can consume is strawberries, blueberries. Apples with peanut buttter or cheese or with nuts and the same goes for oranges. Everything else is off bounds to spiking.
I don't think sandwiches and apple juice where something they wisely thought about when they offered them as a meal. Most hospital staff are not even versed on hypoglycaemia and or what it does to the body on ingesting carbs. More often than not i had to educate the nursing staff that reactive...
Fasting on day one and two was ok , not hungry. But by day three i was craving sweets and i'm assuming it was due to the depletion of my glycogen levels and this was a way for my body to tell me i needed glucose for replenishment. Energy wise, i was feeling depleted as even though i wasn't...
Update: I've finished my four day stay in hospital being nil by mouth with no hypo. The Doctor was able to rule out adrenal/cortisol issues, pancreatic and pineal gland cancers as well as Adison's disease.
What i have learned is that the six meals a day to keep blood sugar steady is a fallacy...
You might find some answers in here https://www.diabetes.org.uk/diabetes-the-basics/other-types-of-diabetes/steroid-induced-diabetes but remember always discuss with your doctor first before you take any action.
Martha,
I'm so sorry that you are going through all this pain. I can sympathize. It's not easy at this stage to control especially when there's no rhyme or reason as to why our BC rises and falls with symptoms at both ends of the spectrum.
Sometimes it renders me so fatigued that i can't do...
Update:
Last Friday had a cortisol test. Something must have come up in the test because i am now booked in for a short synacthen test next Tuesday. I don't want to assume or get a head of myself but this either leads to Addison's disease or a problem with the pituitary gland/ adrenals.
