Diagnosed in July last year at beginning of 6 weeks holiday. Came as a complete shock as I'd just completed a 10 mile run- first one ever. Went to doctors for a routine check and came home been told to drink 10 pints of water and return to doctors next day. Sent to hospital and told I had to inject insulin with meals.
