    Leg and foot pain

I have had type 1 for 55 years. I have neuropathy in my feet. My sister has severe neuropathy too. Some things she has found helpful:- Gabapentin, Lyrica, both on prescription and some side effects. Benfotiamine/ Milgamma:- this is a combination of B- vitamins which have been shown to help...

    Totally confused...

Oh good, your husband is your best resource then. Sounds like your levels are going in the right direction. All the best.

Thank goodness you are on insulin now. And that they are doing the appropriate tests so you can find out what type of diabetes you actually have. Misdiagnosis is common. Did the diabetes nurse give you dose adjustment guidelines? How high are your BGLs now? And your ketones? Often people need...

explaining what it's really like to live with Type 1

Thanks Sweetkey83. This site is amazing, everyone so kind and supportive. I have been doing very low carb for 6 months. Probably not quite Bernstein- level, but around 20 to 50 g a day. Like you say, my levels have been much better for most of the 6 months. It is very reassuring that you say...

Church of England Children's Society hostels.

It's a small world. I left there at 17 and then did my Nursery Nurse training at a C of E CS nursery in Felixstowe in Suffolk. Maybe I even went to college and met another girl who looked after you when you were a baby

Church of England Children's Society hostels.

I am just wondering if anyone else was in a Church of England Children's Society hostel for children with diabetes? My parents had divorced and Mum was not coping, so I was sent to live in one of these children's homes in 1965 at age 13, and was there until I left school at 17. There were 3 such...

    Totally confused...

As well as all the above advice, maybe at your next visit put your big girl pants on and write a Letter to the doctor outlining all your concerns, outline your blood glucose levels, symptoms, ketones, concern regarding just waiting, and that you wish to start bolus insulin while awaiting...

Pump cost comparison for private funding

I agree with so many of the comments here. In Australia the majority of people have private health insurance, and pumps are covered every 4 years, when the warranty runs out. So I have in my drawer 4 used but functioning pumps. We used to be able to pass them on to a clinic or to an individual...

    Possibility of no complications

55 years T1. I vividly remember praying, when I was 11 or 12 to "please don't make me blind" I was terrified of blindness and gangrene. For various reasons I had horrendous control for most of my childhood and young adulthood. This was pre blood glucose testing but at a wild guess I reckon my...

need advice what would you do in my situation

Just be carefull if you decide to test without the Levemir for longer periods of time. As Alison says the bigger the dose the longer it may last, but unless you are giving rapid acting, the Levemir will run out eventually and you don't know when this will happen, and you don't want it happening...

Eating alone and injecting in a restraunt how?

I agree about self-consciousness. I have usually found that other people are less interested in what we are doing than we think they are! I have injected at table and even the people with me haven't noticed.

    FDA alert about SGLT2 Inhibitors

The link is in relation to an alert about this class of drug causing a rare and serious genital infection called necrotising fasciitis of the perineum, not about the usual action of the medication. It sounds awful, and really strange. I have never heard of such a thing before!
